Justin Timberlake made a public apology on social media on Wednesday - after photos emerged which saw him holding hands with his Palmer co-star Alisha Wainwright - however, television presenter Wendy Williams believes it was a rather contrived effort.

The singer posted the lengthy statement to Instagram. "A few weeks ago I displayed a strong lapse in judgment — but let me be clear — nothing happened between me and my costar," it read.

"I drank way too much that night and I regret my behavior. I should have known better. This is not the example I want to set for my son. I apologize to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be. This was not that. I am incredibly proud to be working on Palmer. Looking forward to continuing to make this movie and excited for people to see it."

But William's stance on the statement was damning. "We do Hot Topics, that's our business. I forgot all about you, Jessica Biel, the costar and the whole bit and now you're apologizing?" she said as the show began on Thursday. "It must be hell at home, honey!"

Williams then said that the actress probably "grabbed [Justin] by the scruff of his neck and said you better get out there and say something," she continued. "Which is only making it a bigger situation than it was. I had forgotten."

"There's nothing wrong with a hand on the knee sometimes," she added, saying that the statement was made redundant by the fact that it only brought "more light to the fact your marriage must be in scrambles right now."

Saying that she never thought the couple had much chemistry, she continued, "They look good together, but I don't really understand the appeal of Biel beyond a look. I don't see her being able to dance to his music or drink all night with him. Maybe too serious for him."

Williams softened the blow, however, by stating that Biel is "a lovely girl", who is "very beautiful", but that she's always imagined Timberlake with someone who has "a little swivel in her step."

Ouch, burn.
