Love him or loathe him, there's no doubt that Draco Malfoy is one of the greatest characters in Harry Potter, but it turns out that he got surprisingly little screen time.

This will come as a huge shock to fans of the Harry Potter franchise, who can no doubt quote some of his most memorable quotes like "My father will hear about this!" at the drop of the hat.

Draco Malfoy calls Hermione a 'mudblood' in this classic Harry Potter scene:

The revelation that Malfoy (portrayed by Tom Felton) was on screen for just 31 minutes was made on Twitter when one user wrote: "The fact Draco Malfoy was only in 31 minutes throughout the WHOLE of the Harry Potter franchise (19 hrs & 40 mins) just doesn't sit right with me."

Needless to say, this tweet resonated with a lot of people, and since it was posted on October 5, it has received over 422.7K likes and 42.6K retweets.

The Twitter user who posted the information, Alex, then backed it up with a screenshot from film info vault IMDb.

To put Malfoy's appearances into context, he appeared in just 2.5% of all Harry Potter movie scenes.

In response to the shock revelation, another Twitter user wrote: "Are you telling that 14 years old [sic]me celebrated the birthday of a character that had 31 minutes on screen?"

However, it is worth noting that screen time is only registered when a character is visible on the screen and it does not include the moments when they are still present but out of shot.

Malfoy isn't the only major character to have surprisingly little screen time either, with IMBd reporting that Voldemort was on screen for 37 minutes and 15 seconds, while Hagrid appeared for 45 minutes and 45 seconds.

But perhaps most surprisingly of all, despite the fact that Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) is the protagonist of the entire series, he was in the movies for just under nine hours, which is less than half of their runtime.

Now, I don't know about you, but I've just been overcome with a strong urge to rewatch every Potter movie to see this for myself...
