The former mayor of New York City was questioned by Bakalova in a hotel room about the Trump Administration's response to the ongoing pandemic, while apparently unaware that the room contained a number of concealed cameras.

Per The Guardian, after the actress removed Giuliani's microphone, the Trump advisor then lay back on the hotel room bed and started: "fiddling with his untucked shirt and reaching into his trousers" before Cohen burst into the room and announced: "She’s 15. She’s too old for you."

In an interview with The New York Times, the Bulgarian actress opened up about the controversial scene, stating that Sacha Baron Cohen and her prepared and blocked the scene beforehand.

"We’d been talking a lot about different scenarios. How should I act, this way or this way? What should I do? What is smarter?

"But in all of the scenarios, I was confident that Sacha will save me and he will save the scene, so it’s not going to be a disaster. He’s my guardian angel."

When asked if she was nervous about filming the scene, Bakalova continued: "I was nervous. My heart was racing. But Sacha was like: 'you should be nervous in this situation. So use your nerves. Convert them and accept them and they’re going to help you through everything.'"

When asked if she believed that the former mayor intended to act inappropriately towards her, Bakalova stated: "I saw everything that you saw. If you saw the movie, that’s our message. We want everybody to see the movie and judge for themselves."

She also added that she was confident that the British comedian was looking out for her well-being, adding:

"Sacha jumped into the room quickly, because he’s been worried about me. So if he were late I don’t know how things were going to go. But he came just in time."

Sacha Baron Cohen later released an official statement on the scene while in-character as Borat:

Sacha Baron Cohen has also commented on the hotel room encounter in an "official statement" posted on his official Twitter account, where he appeared in-character as Borat and stated: "Jagshemash. I'm here to defend America's mayor Rudolf Giuliani.

"What was an innocent sexy time encounter between a consenting man and my 15-year-old daughter has been turned into something disgusting by fake news media.

"I warn you, anyone else try this and Rudolf will not hesitate to reach out into his legal briefs and whip out his subpoenas."

Meanwhile, Giuliani has categorically denied any wrongdoing on his part, tweeting to his 837,000 followers:

"At no time before, during, or after the interview was I ever inappropriate. If Sacha Baron Cohen implies otherwise he is a stone-cold liar.

"This is an effort to blunt my relentless exposure of the criminality and depravity of Joe Biden and his entire family."
