Following the latest episode of the recently-returned Game of Thrones, which aired on Sunday, fans flooded Twitter to voice their support for one very popular theory about Arya Stark.
It turns out that a lot of people believe that the young warrior is a lesbian. Whether or not it's simply a matter of wishful thinking, many fans of the fantasy drama are insisting that Arya is gay.
Watch a preview for next Sunday's episode of Game of ThronesFunnily enough, what sparked this sudden outpouring of support for the theory was that steamy scene between her and Gendry.
Yep, the HBO show's most recent episode sees Arya lose her virginity to a man.
Arya and Gendry may well have slept together in the episode, but that certainly doesn't mean she is in any way attracted to men - according to a number of fans.
In fact, if anything the sex scene basically proved Arya really does harbour secret desires for women. And plenty of fans have expressed this, in no uncertain terms, on their Twitter pages.
"Happy for Arya and a nice lil consensual empowering moment of sex on the show but Arya Stark not being a powerful lesbian is the LEAST believable thing in this show about zombies and dragons," one fan writes.
And Mysa the Lesbian totally agreed:
As did fellow Twitter user, Sibel got spoilers:
While no one has any definitive proof, that postcoital look on Arya's face seems to say it all.
"Is this Arya contemplating death or is it her finally realizing she’s gay?" Twitter user, Yuval asks.
Yuval certainly wasn't the only one to notice that unmistakable look of disappointment:
Even rapper T-Pain agrees. Well, sort of:
Some fans of the youngest Stark daughter weighed in with their own plot suggestions. Having Arya hook up with a "lesbian stud", for instance.
"Arya was laying next to that man after they clapped cheeks like is this is what everyone was yelling about???" one user writes. "She should've hooked up with a lesbian stud like the many faced god intended. my child, abeg."
Other fans kept their tweets short and sweet, and were simply stating the facts:
In fact, Maisie Williams herself thought the scripted sex scene between her character and Gendry, played by Joe Dempsie, was nothing more than a joke from the showrunners David Benioff and DB Weis.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 22-year-old explains, "At first, I thought it was a prank. I was like, 'Yo, good one.' And [the showrunners were] like, 'No, we haven’t done that this year.' Oh f**k!"
Williams also commended the scene for highlighting a more "human" side to Arya.
"It was really interesting because it’s a very human relationship for Arya," she said.
"This is something she’s stayed away from, an emotion we’ve never really seen her engage with. David and Dan were like, It’s the end of the world, what else would you have her do?"
