John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John reunite as Grease characters for first time in 40 years

There's no doubt that Grease is still one of the best and most iconic musical movies of all time, and everyone can at least hum along to the tune of 'You're The One That I Want.' Indeed, the 1950s throwback story of greasers, diner girls, and a school prom captivated audiences back in 1978, and turned its stars into household names.

Watch Hugh Jackman pay emotional tribute to Olivia Newton-John:

However, the two leads who arguably made the film so memorable have never returned to the roles ... until now. In what must seem like a Christmas miracle for Grease fans, Travolta and Newton-John have reprised the characters of Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson for the first time in over 40 years.

At the "Meet 'N Grease" movie sing-along event held at the Coral Sky Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, the two actors showed up to meet their fans. They even donned their old costumes from the movie, with Newton-John wearing a yellow ensemble, and Travolta wearing his black leather biker duds.

Oliva Newton-John took to her official Instagram account to share some pics of the two of them together, which she captioned: "First time in costume since we made the movie! So excited!! [sic]"

Per British tabloid newspaper The Sun, the two actors have been close friends since the original theatrical release of the film, and have collaborated multiple times since then.

In 1983 they starred alongside each other in the rom-com Two Of A Kind, made an appearance in Michael Jackson's music video Liberian Girl in 1987, and recorded a joint Christmas album together for charity in 2012.
