Lip reader 'reveals' Kylie Jenner's furious eight word warning to Timothée Chalamet at Oscars
Hollywood’s favorite couple, Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet, reportedly shared a tense moment during the 98th Academy Awards, according to a lip-reading expert who analysed an exchange between the pair during the event.
Kylie, 28, attended the ceremony at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday alongside her boyfriend, 30-year-old Timothée, who was nominated for Best Actor for his performance in Marty Supreme.
While the pair made the conscious decision of not taking to the red carpet together, they were later seen sitting side by side in the front row of the venue.
Kylie wore a striking red sequinned Schiaparelli gown that featured a key-shaped cut-out, paired with a diamond Lorraine Schwartz necklace. Timothée opted for an all-white Givenchy tuxedo, which included a double-breasted jacket, button-down shirt and tie. He finished the look with black sunglasses, an Urban Jürgensen watch and several rings.
What did the lipreading reveal?
Yet, it wasn’t their respective outfit choices or Timothée's Best Actor snub that grabbed the attention of lip-reader Nicola Hickling, who claimed the couple appeared to have a slightly heated interaction during a behind-the-scenes clip shared by Entertainment Tonight.
In the footage, the pair are seated in the front row when Timothee turns toward someone off-camera and makes a finger-gun gesture. After biting his lower lip, he turns back toward Kylie and says something to her.
Both of them then look in the same direction he had been facing moments earlier. According to Hickling, Timothée appeared to say something else, though she said the words couldn’t be clearly deciphered because of the awkward camera angle. She claimed Kylie responded while rolling her eyes, saying: “Now you're being a child, so shut up.”
The couple's dating history
Their well-publicised romance purportedly began in January 2023, when the lovers were first spotted together publicly at a Jean Paul Gaultier show during Paris Fashion Week. Their first public outing together as confirmed boyfriend and girlfriend came later that year when they attended Beyoncé’s Renaissance concert in Los Angeles in September 2023.
The couple eventually made their official red carpet debut at the 70th David Di Donatello Awards in Rome in May 2025.
Since then, Kylie has frequently supported Timothée during award season, accompanying him to several events while he was nominated for his role in Marty Supreme, including the BAFTAs last month.
At the 2026 Golden Globes, Timothée publicly acknowledged Kylie while accepting the award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. He also mentioned her during his speech at the 31st Annual Critics’ Choice Awards, where he won Best Actor.
During that speech he said: “Lastly, I'll just say thank you to my partner of three years — thank you for our foundation. I love you. I couldn't do this without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” Cameras then cut to Kylie in the audience, where she appeared to mouth back: “I love you.”
He ended the speech by adding: “For my parents, for my partner, I love you. Thank you so much.”
