Natalie Portman has shown off her incredible transformation into the female Thor in a series of on-set pictures that have left fans in awe.

In pictures shared on Twitter by the fan account 'Natalie Portman Updates', the actress, 39, can be seen looking more than a little ripped as she reprises the role of scientist-turned-superhero Jane Foster.

This comes after Portman previously took to Instagram to explain that she was going to "get jacked" - and judging by these photographs, she's been very successful.

In an interview with Yahoo! in October, Portman said of the movie: "I can't tell you that much. I'm really excited. I'm starting to train, to get muscles. If there can be all these female superheroes, the more of them they are, the better it is.

"I'm trying to think - it's based on the graphic novel of the Mighty Thor. She's going through cancer treatment and is a superhero on the side."

Needless to say, Twitter was impressed by Portman's transformation.

People were quick to react to the actress's transformation, which makes her look like a real-life superhero who has just stepped out of a comic book.

One Twitter user wrote: "Natalie Portman reminds us why she's one of the best working today! Absolutely love seeing the dedication and commitment she gives to every role emotionally, mentally, and physically! Can't wait to see her crush it in Thor: Love and Thunder"

A second wrote: "F**king hell. Natalie Portman so ripped for Thor, if they made Leon 2, she could just throw the bullets into the bad guys [sic] heads."

Meanwhile, a third added: "WOW! Natalie Portman got buffed! I never thought I'd see the day."

Also back in October, the actress appeared on Watch What Happens Live, where she explained that she was having to follow a grueling training regime to get buff enough for the movie.

"I'm in so much pain," she said. "I'm not good at this. I am an almost-40-year-old mother-of-two. It is a different scenario to try and get jacked. I can't get up, I can't sit down. It's a situation… It's not happening. I'm like, 'When do they (muscles) come in?'

Thor: Love and Thunder is currently scheduled to be released in the US on February 18, 2022.
