News anchor fired over cameo in Adam Sandler movie

Alaina Pinto, a former morning anchor for WHDH news station, has been fired after making a cameo in the latest Adam Sandler movie.

According to a report by the New York Post, Pinto, who joined the news station in 2016, claims that she accidentally violated her contract by appearing in the upcoming Netflix horror-comedy Hubie Halloween.

In a post made to her 14,800 followers on Twitter, Pinto wrote:  "Hi Friends! I have some news to share… Earlier this week I was let go from 7 News. I am posting this because I want to be open and honest with all of you.

"Last year, I participated in a cameo in the recently released Netflix movie by Adam Sandler, 'Hubie Halloween.'"

She continued: "In doing so, I mistakenly violated my contract with the station and I understand why management unfortunately chose to terminate me. I am deeply disappointed and saddened, and I hoped this would not be how things evolved.

"Thanks to all my wonderful 7 News viewers and my supportive and great colleagues at the station. Reporting the news to you every morning was an honor and a privilege.

"I promise to stay in touch and keep you updated on the next chapter - the future is bright! [sic]"

According to Boston.com, Pinto plays an anchor for a fictional Boston TV station, and at one point presents a morning news show while dressed as the DC Comics character Harley Quinn.

Prior to her stint at WHDH, Pinto worked at Fox Local 44 and ABC Local 22 in Burlington, Vermont, per the NY Post.

Hubie Halloween stars Adam Sandler as Hubie Dubois, a local eccentric employee at a deli in Salem in Massachusets, who has to rally to save his fellow townsfolk, after a series of mysterious disappearances lead to him suspecting foul play.

In addition to Sandler and Pinto, the movie also stars Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta, Rob Schneider, Kenan Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, and Noah Schnapp.

The movie currently boasts a rating of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 58 reviews, with the critical consensus reading: "Viewers immune to its star's charms won't find it much of a treat, but Hubie Halloween is sweet enough to satisfy fans of Adam Sandler's antics."
