Nobody likes a talker during a movie but there’s one particular scene in the Harry Potter series that is causing a "sirius" debate among fans (see what I did there?).
Harry Potter is a top watch for any serial film binger, with every installment in the franchise being a great watch. But it is the very first introduction of Daniel Radcliffe as Harry in The Sorcerer's Stone that has recently got a lot of social media users talking.
A video shared by TikTok user @sistapam has emerged showing the scene between Harry and his cousin Dudley, played by Harry Melling.
As many of you may remember, it’s Dudley’s birthday, and as he rushes down the stairs, he purposely stomps on them in order to disturb Harry, who lives in the cupboard underneath.
To many who have watched the film, Dudley seems to say "Wake up! Potter,” like his dad Vernon refers to Harry. But if you play the scene with subtitles, you get a different answer.
The subtitles read: “Wake up! Cousin!” And the suggestion has sparked a frenzy online.

Another said: "I always thought it was potter too."
Others posted “it was always cousin,” and “I could clearly hear cousin.”
This prompted the poster to ask: “Right? Maybe whoever did the captions misheard?”
But after more than 1,400 comments, the jury was still out over what Dudley actually says in the scene. And so, the conversation turned to Reddit as one user opened the dialogue, saying: “Does anyone actually know what he says?
"It seems like a stupid question but it's quite hard to distinguish between 'Potter' and 'cousin' when they're muffled by a staircase and it's getting frustrating."
One user began the debate with “It's cousin. If you particularly listen for the consonant in the second syllable, it's clearly a 'z' sound like cousin and not a 't' sound like Potter.”
But another refused to concede that Dudley would use such language in his dad’s house.
They said: “I find it difficult to believe Vernon would let the word 'Potter' be allowed to be spoken inside the house. Then again, movies, so...”
A fun fact from Hollywood is that most subtitles are generated from the script to allow for easy translation across languages. So, maybe we need to ask J.K. Rowling?
