There's no denying that Sydney Sweeney’s wedding look in Euphoria was designed to push boundaries. In fact, according to the show’s costume lead, the actress's nipple reveal in the scene was very much intentional.
Season 3 episode 3, released Sunday, April 26, saw Cassie and Nate tie the knot in a lavish wedding partially funded by Cassie’s new OnlyFans career, with Sweeney wearing a custom corseted gown created by Jackson Wiederhoeft. But it was the revealing neckline and what happened during rehearsals that has now sparked fresh buzz.
Speaking to InStyle, costume lead Natasha Newman-Thomas revealed the production made a bold creative call after repeated mishaps with the dress during Cassie and Nate’s first dance rehearsal, deciding not to hide the slips but work them into the character.
“Sydney kept having nip slips,” Newman-Thomas recalled. “And I was like, ‘Okay, we’re not going to tape her in. We’re going to embrace it.’ And I was like, We’re going to make custom pasties out of the same hand-beaded fabric and embrace the nip slip because that’s so Cassie.”
That decision made it to the screen, with one dramatic moment late in the episode showing Sweeney’s custom pasties peeking out from the top of the dress.
Newman-Thomas said the gown was meant to reflect “Cassie’s psychology” and her fantasy of being “a princess” on her wedding day.
“And we really wanted her to feel special. And I wanted to make the most beautiful, sexy wedding dress with just the slightest touch of tackiness because it’s Cassie,” she told InStyle.
The dress itself was built to be over-the-top, something designer Jackson Wiederhoeft said was central to the concept.
Wiederhoeft described it as “the type of dress where the bride wants all the s***,” including “the high slit, the beading, the huge 15-foot train.”
“Best case scenario, I think you're dressing as a form of self-expression [for your wedding day], but there is a scenario in which you're dressing as revenge and as a form of trying to outdo everyone,” the designer continued. “It was more about doing the most.”
That philosophy appears tied directly to Cassie’s chaotic season 3 arc, which has already stirred debate among viewers.
A teaser for the rest of the season also previewed a provocative new twist for the character, including a brief clip of Cassie posing for her OnlyFans content. In the teaser, Cassie says, “I just feel like if more people knew me, I would be huge,” moments before the footage appears.
The wedding episode now looks like just one piece of a bigger storyline built around spectacle, ambition, and escalating drama.
With Cassie using adult content as a side hustle to boost her and Nate’s income, the bridal look has taken on even more meaning, functioning as both costume and character statement.
And judging by Newman-Thomas’ comments, even the details some viewers may have thought were accidental were carefully woven into that vision.
