The Home Alone movie franchise may be synonymous with the holiday season, but that doesn't mean all viewers are left with a feel-good festive feeling...

In December of 1990, Macaulay Culkin delighted viewers worldwide when he starred as the adorable rascal Kevin McCallister in the first Home Alone movie.

The Christmas flick saw eight-year-old Kevin utilize his toybox and cunning mind in order to thwart two burglars from robbing his house after his family accidentally leaves him home alone.

Despite the McCallisters being the absolute worst family in movie history (just try to change my mind), Home Alone was a huge success - amassing fans worldwide and going on to become the highest-grossing live-action comedy for over 20 years.

Therefore, it was only fitting that fans got to see Culkin return as Kevin in the movie's 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

This time around, Kevin was attempting to foil the plans of the Wet Bandits in the Big Apple - and much like the first movie, he didn't have his family around to help him.

Nevertheless, similar to how he befriended Old Man Marley in the first movie, Kevin does receive a helping hand from a kind homeless woman known as the Pigeon Lady (played by Brenda Fricker).

After putting the Wet Bandits through a series of seriously heinous traps, Harry and Marv finally catch up to Kevin after he slips on some ice in Central Park. But just when it looks like Kevin is about to celebrate his very last Christmas, he is saved by the Pigeon Lady, who throws a bucket of birdseed onto them - allowing Kevin to escape and the police to finally get the burglars in handcuffs.

On Christmas morning, Kevin is rewarded with toys and reconciles with his family - but he takes a moment to visit Central Park and give a special turtledove tree ornament to the Pigeon Lady as a sign of their everlasting friendship.

Now, the moment was clearly supposed to be a touching gesture to signify Kevin's gratitude and appreciation for his new friend, but people rewatching the classic Christmas movie have been left seriously unimpressed.

This is mainly down to the fact that Kevin had been staying in New York with his father's credit card - checking into the Plaza hotel and ordering room service. And what does he give the homeless woman who saved his life? A ceramic turtledove!

One viewer tweeted: "Since I was a kid, I've never been able to eat anytime the Pigeon Lady was on screen during Home Alone 2. This lady is LITTERLLY covered in bird s**t and Kevin McCallister's BIG gift to her are some Christmas ornaments... GIVE THE LADY A HOT SHOWER IN YOUR HOTEL SUITE, KEVIN!!!"

A second added: "Nobody talks about the bird lady from Home Alone 2 who is homeless and saves Kevin’s life, only to be given two plastic turtle dove tree ornaments at the end. Meanwhile Kev’s staying at the Plaza. Doesn’t offer her a shower or a sandwich. Just turtle doves.

"Kevin’s an a**hole."

A third wrote: "Remember when Kevin gave that nice pigeon lady a toy bird instead of inviting her to his stolen penthouse suite? Kevin really was the villain."

And many others agreed:

Although, this Twitter user came up with a far better ending for the sequel:
