HBO Max is treating fans to a Wedding Crashers sequel that is set to star its original cast.

The 2005 comedy starred Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, and they are reportedly returning for a project that's known as Wedding Crashers 2, Production Weekly reports.

They will once again be joined by Isla Fisher and Rachel McAdams. However, it's not known if Will Ferrell, who had an uncredited role in the first movie, will be returning for the sequel.

According to the production listing, filming for the new movie is set to begin this August in Puerto Rico, with the new film being written by Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Evan Susser and Van Robichaux alongside Rob McKittrick.

Other stars from the original who could reappear are Christopher Walken and Jane Seymour.

While nothing is yet known about the sequel's plot, the original movie saw Wilson and Vaughn's characters John Beckwith and Jeremy Grey deliberately crash weddings to bed women.

It is speculated that the sequel will not have a cinema release to ensure its success, and therefore it will be released via a streaming service Amazon Prime much like Borat 2 was last year.

The original film made $288 million globally (£204.3 million) and had a budget of $40 million (£28.4 million), per Box Office Mojo.

Vaughn said that he had been discussing the possibility of making a sequel to the movie with Wilson and the director, David Dobkin, in November of last year, per Independent.

"There has been an idea that is pretty good. So we are talking about that in the early stages," he said.

However, the Independent points out that this is not the first time the possibility of a sequel has hit the headlines. The same news hit headlines back in 2016, with New Line confirming that the movie was in the works.

Prior to this, in 2014, Dobkin was reportedly working with the stars of the original on a sequel that had them face the "ultimate wedding crasher", who was to be portrayed by Daniel Craig.

But hopefully, this time, it's the real deal!
