Fox News has a new commentator - Caitlyn Jenner.

The Olympic champion and reality TV star will be joining the channel as a paid contributor, with her first appearance scheduled for Sean Hannity's program on Thursday.

Fox News Media CEP Suzanne Scott said that Jenner - who is a transgender woman - was an inspirational voice and a "trailblazer" in the LGBTQ+ community, per MailOnline.

"Caitlyn’s story is an inspiration to us all," she said. "She is a trailblazer in the LGBTQ+ community and her illustrious career spans a variety of fields that will be a tremendous asset for our audience."

Jenner, 72, also celebrated the news on her Instagram page, where she posted a snap of herself appearing on Fox alongside the caption: "I am humbled by this unique opportunity to speak directly to @foxnews millions of viewers about a range of issues that are important to the American people."

On Twitter, she was welcomed to the Fox News family by her new colleagues. "Congrats and welcome aboard," tweeted Tammy Bruce, while Tomi Lahren wrote:Proud to welcome @Caitlyn_Jenner to the FoxNews family. She is a kind and wonderful human who fights harder for freedom and American values than most."

The former Olympic decathlete is considered a polarizing figure by many in the LGBTQ community thanks to her often conservative views.

Last year, she campaigned as a Republican to be elected Governor of California, but was defeated by incumbent democrat Gov Gavin Newsom, and finished 13th in the recall election.

More recently, she weighed in on the controversy around transgender athletes, giving her opinion on University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas - a trans woman who won the women's NCAA Championships. Despite being a trans woman herself, Jenner agreed with Florida Gov Ron DeSantis that silver medalist Emma Weyant was the real winner of the tournament.

"[Emma] is the rightful winner! It’s not transphobic or anti-trans, it’s COMMON SENSE!" Jenner tweeted.

Long before she came out as transgender in 2015, Jenner had an illustrious athletic career. She won a gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympics.
