Several publications have come under fire after releasing a series of “disheveled” photographs of former ‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry, with fans from around the world rallying to defend the actor. After the images appeared across the internet, supporters expressed their concerns over Perry’s well-being and asserted that the 50-year-old be left in peace.

In response to the photographs, many Perry fans took to Twitter to express their unhappiness with the reporting. One wrote, “Give the guy a break. He’s obviously dealing with issues,” while another responded, “Leave him alone.”

In a more lengthy post, a third commented:

“He’s probably not great material for a gossip column right now; you know he has addiction issues that he has worked hard to fight - maybe choose not to publish these pics. Then you will stop feeding the market for paps following him.”

Part of the concern arises from Perry’s past issues with substance abuse. In an appearance on BBC Radio 2, the actor was asked what his least favorite Friends episode was, to which he responded, “Oh my goodness. I think the answer is I don’t remember three years of it. So none of those … somewhere between season 3 and 6.”

After struggling with Vicodin addiction for several years, Perry entered rehab twice, before opening his own sober-living facility called "Perry House". As he explained in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, "You can’t have a drug problem for 30 years and then expect to have it be solved in 28 days. Getting sober is a really hard thing to do."

Fans and idle observers alike will undoubtedly be wishing him the best of luck.
