An influencer that gave birth while she was in a coma has finally woken up and met her baby for the first time.
Jackie Miller James, a prominent beauty guru online, was put into a medically induced coma back in May following a sudden brain aneurysm and severe bleeding a week before her due date.
At the time, Jackie's family set up a GoFundMe page detailing what had happened.
"Jackie was found immediately by her husband, Austin, and was rushed to the emergency room and into an operation where they performed an emergency C-section and brain surgery simultaneously," they wrote.
"Twelve days after this incident, Jackie remains in a medically induced coma and has undergone five separate brain procedures. Jackie is expected to remain in the ICU for weeks and will continue to be hospitalized for months."
It then went on to state that the newborn remained in the NICU due to the "traumatic events of her birth" while also adding that while Jackie may have still been in a coma, she "met" her baby girl via skin-on-skin contact.
"Jackie’s husband and family have not left her side since the incident," continued the statement, before disclosing how serious the initial situation was.
"If Jackie and the baby arrived a few minutes later at the hospital, we likely would have lost both of them. But instead, Jackie is continuing to fight for her life each day and we are optimistic she can beat the odds by surrounding her with the right specialists and methods of therapy. While the road will be long, we are committed to bringing Jackie home to her daughter and husband," it said.
Just a month after the incident, it has now been reported that Jackie has woken from her induced coma and is "reunited" with her child.
Taking to Instagram on Sunday, a family member posted on behalf of the influencer, stating that she was "performing above expectations."
"We are beyond thrilled to share that your loving prayers for Jackie have been working," the statement said. "Jackie is awake and was recently transferred to one of the best neurological rehabilitation hospitals in the country. The doctors have been pleased upon her latest tests, numbers, and evaluations, noting that Jackie is performing above expectations at this stage of her recovery and is progressing more with every passing day."
Despite all the progress Jackie is clearly making, the family stressed that there is still a "long road to recovery" adding that "prayers, love, and support from this community are more important than ever as she continues to heal."
The family also revealed that the beauty guru is also with her baby now saying: "[She] spends a great deal of each day with her entire family while in the hospital.
"We are currently navigating rehabilitation needs, medical bills, and insurance claims. The resources raised from the GoFundMe will allow us to continue to give Jackie the very best care and every chance at recovery. We are so appreciative of your donations every little bit continues to help," the statement added.
Currently, the GoFundMe page stands at $334,202, and that number is continuing to increase by the hour.
As per The Mayo Clinic, a brain aneurysm can be "life-threatening" and "requires medical treatment right away."
"Brain aneurysms are caused by thinning artery walls," the medical outlet states. "Most brain aneurysms don't rupture. They usually don't cause symptoms or cause health problems. In many cases, brain aneurysms are found during tests for other conditions. However, a ruptured aneurysm quickly becomes life-threatening and requires medical treatment right away."
