Johnny Depp denies putting cigarettes out on Amber Heard as audio tapes are played to the jury

Johnny Depp has denied that he ever put cigarettes out on his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The actor, 58, was back on the witness stand yesterday after testifying against his former partner last week. Both celebrity exes are embroiled in a $50 million defamation lawsuit, with Depp alleging that Heard lied in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed where she claimed to be a survivor of domestic abuse.

Heard, meanwhile, is counter-suing her ex-husband for $100 million, citing numerous occasions on which he allegedly abused her during their ill-fated relationship.

During his testimony at the courthouse in Fairfax County, Virginia, the Pirates of the Caribbean star claimed that he was the real victim of abuse. However, his ex-wife's legal team sought to undermine his testimony when they cross-examined him yesterday (Monday, April 25).

The defense introduced a number of audio recordings in which the two can be heard fighting. In the first audio clip, Heard can be heard saying to her then-husband, per TooFab: "Go put your f***ing cigarettes out on someone else, you f***ing have consequences for your actions. That's it!"

Depp responds by shouting: "Shut up, fat a**!" Heard hits back, saying: "Yeah, you got me there."

After the audio was played to the court, Heard's attorneys requested that they play it again - but Depp's team objected and the judge sided with them, asking the defense to move on.

They then quizzed Depp about the implications of the audio, saying: "When Ms. Heard tells you in that recording to 'go put your cigarettes out on someone else', you don't deny that, but instead you simply say 'shut up fat a**'. Is that correct?"

Depp responds by saying he believes the statement "was another grossly exaggerated moment of Ms. Heard," adding: "I did not put out a cigarette out on her or throw a cigarette at her."

Heard's team went on to play more audio clips of the pair arguing. In one, Heard tells her then-husband that he always: "gets a stab in when you can, you throw a swing when you can ... when better than when I'm on the flood, because that's when it's really good to hit someone."

Another captures Depp saying to her: "Walking away is necessary, especially between you and I. It is of upmost importance. The next move, if I don't walk away, it's just gonna be a blood bath. Like it was on the island, of course. It's not worth it."

With Depp's cross-examination now over, Heard is expected to testify in the coming days.
