Professional celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D has revealed that she's covered her leg in black ink to replace the "garbage" tattoos she got when she was younger, proving even the best of us make mistakes.
The Mexican-born US artist and makeup mogul - who shot to fame on the hit series Miami Ink, before fronting her own version LA Ink - is renowned for her tattoos, even breaking the Guinness World Record of most tattoos given by a single person in 24 hours, which is 400.
However, the star took to her Instagram account to detail her own ink, explaining that she chose to black out her left leg as a cover-up. "I'm so happy with how this blackout tattooing by [Hoode Philly] is coming together!" she wrote in the caption, referencing the Philadelphia-based tattoo artist specializing in blackout ink who did her tattoo.
"Today we knocked out my entire upper thigh all the way to my butt," Von D wrote, adding that she would have shared a photo of the whole design but that she wanted to keep it "PG" for her followers.
"Before anyone starts criticizing, I encourage you to remember that it's ok not to like or even understand things. Trust me, I've seen plenty of tattoos I personally would never get. And those differences make this world so much more interesting! So no need to comment any negativity," she continued.
"Just know that I absolutely LOVE it," she added, saying that it was "refreshing" to see "all the garbage, drunken tattoos" she had "scribbled" on her leg before she became sober "covered by sleekness and simplicity."
Despite the 40-year-old mom-of-one's message to those wishing to comment negatively, many users couldn't help themselves.
"Why wouldn’t you just get them Lasered off?" one person wrote.
"Tattoos are like milestones in life, you just move forward. No point in getting a tattoo if this is what you are gonna do. Oh and why are you not vegan anymore? Seems like you can't stick with anything..." another user added.
Though, others commented their support of Von D.
"Yes but all them 'drunken tattoos' had a story to them they told a story of the rough journey that was overcome by you and you should embrace them as they made you all that you are today and that is one full of experience and struggle that is now strong and overcame something so many many fail at [...] The blackout is beautiful!!!" someone wrote.
"I dig it! Your body, your choice," another chimed in.
