Kelly Clarkson has explained the reason behind her decision to ban her children from social media until they are 18 years old.

In a new interview with PEOPLE, the 41-year-old singer and talk show host opened up about her strict parenting techniques and why she has chosen to keep her children away from the turmoils of social media.

Social media can be tough for anyone, whether that be down to being bombarded with unrealistic snapshots of people's "perfect" lives or bodies, or down to trolling or mean comments, it can be a difficult place for a child to navigate.

The former Voice judge has two children whom she shares with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock - their daughter River Rose, nine, and son Remington Alexander, seven.

Explaining her reasoning behind banning them from social media until they are 18, Clarkson told the outlet in a recent cover story: "That can be really hard on kids in general but especially kids with parents in the public eye.

"So I have informed them they’re not allowed to, under my roof, ever have [it]."

Clarkson then went on to explain the difficulties of co-parenting, stating that it's "so different [for everyone]."

"It’s harder at first," she continued. "There’s so much emotion and trauma involved."

However, she added that the more time passes, "the easier it gets" before saying: "It’s hard enough when you’re married and come from two different backgrounds and ways to discipline and educate. Doing that in different households can be tough."

That doesn't stop her daughter from trying her luck though, but Clarkson stays firm about her decision.

"My daughter was like, 'Well, what if Dad lets me?' I’m like, 'Well, you’re there four days a month. Enjoy that.' And right now he’s not letting them do it either," she told the outlet. "I’ll listen when they’re older, but until they have a solid argument, it’s a no."

The 'Because of You' singer separated from Blackstock back in 2020 but their divorce was only finalized in 2022 after a lengthy legal battle which resulted in Clarkson having to pay Blackstock a one-time payment of approximately $1.3 million, as well as monthly spousal and child support payments despite the children seeing their father only a few days a month.

Elsewhere in another segment for her cover story, the 41-year-old talked about re-inventing herself after her divorce with particular emphasis on personal development and healthy habits.

After relocating to New York City to take her eponymous show to the next level, Clarkson honed down on her routine in order to achieve her desired body goals.

"Walking in the city is quite the workout. I’m really into infrared saunas right now. And I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down," she said, via TODAY.

When it comes to her diet, the Grammy-award-winning musician said that she "[eats] a healthy mix."

"I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor - a couple years I didn’t," she continued. "And 90% of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat - sorry, vegetarians in the world!"

However, that doesn't mean the talk-show host has cut out everything she loves.

"But I still splurge," she told the outlet. "The other night I had a frozen yogurt with my daughter, and it was magical."

The star also discussed the turmoils of being a single mother while also working.

"[I] can be hard on myself, but I think I do a pretty good job. I’m definitely not a helicopter mom," she stated. "I like that they’re independent, but I’m adamant about my schedule, making sure I’m there as much as I can be. There’s no perfect parent; I’m definitely screwing up my children somehow! But I’m doing my best."
