Madonna has been forced to postpone her world tour due to health concerns, and her latest Instagram posts might give an insight into why.
Over the weekend, the iconic singer suffered a medical emergency after she was found unconscious in New York and was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
As reported by BBC News, the 64-year-old is suffering from a bacterial infection and has spent several days in the hospital, though she is expected to make a full recovery.
Shortly before she was discovered, the singer uploaded a series of images onto her Instagram profile which showed the grueling days she had been facing before her upcoming tour.
Captioning the post, the singer wrote: "The Calm Before The Storm…," and in a few of the images, she is seen looking tired, with the Mirror reporting that she had been "strenuously rehearsing".
According to Page Six, Madonna was intubated for a brief period and is now alert and recovering, though her family reportedly "prepared for the worst".
An unnamed family member spoke to the Daily Mail, where they revealed that her family had spent "several traumatic days unsure if she was going to pull through."
They revealed that Madonna has taken the recent health scare as a "wake-up call" after she believed herself to be "invincible" while taking on long days to prepare for her now-postponed tour.
The relative explained: "For the past couple of days, no one really knew which direction this was going to turn, and her family was preparing for the worst. That is why it was kept a secret since Saturday. Everyone believed that we may lose her and that has been the reality of the situation."
The family has now banned any discussions of the tour around Madonna, who her family states puts her career before her health - and say this needs to be a moment of change.
The Madonna: The Celebration Tour was due to kick off on July 15, and would see the singer perform a staggering 84 shows both in the US and in Europe before it ended in January next year.
Offering insights on Instagram, Madonna's manager Guy Oseary revealed that she: "developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU."
While she is out of the ICU now, he added that she continues to be under medical supervision. However, he assured fans that "a full recovery is expected."
We wish Madonna all the best as she continues her recovery.
