Madonna's family were reportedly left "preparing for the worst" after the 'Material Girl' star suffered a medical emergency over the weekend.

The pop music icon, 64, was found unconscious in New York and rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and a family member reportedly told the Daily Mail that they were bracing for the worst.

Guy Oseary, Madonna's manager, had confirmed the Queen of Pop was battling a "serious bacterial infection," causing an immediate postponement of her much-anticipated tour, originally scheduled to commence in Vancouver on July 15.

The unnamed family member claimed that relatives had spent "several traumatic days unsure if she was going to pull through."

They added that the sudden collapse was a "wake-up call" for Madonna, who has been pushing herself to the extreme in order to prepare for tour, and had believed she was "invincible".

The relative explained: "'For the past couple of days, no one really knew which direction this was going to turn, and her family was preparing for the worst. That is why it was kept a secret since Saturday.

"Everyone believed that we may lose her and that has been the reality of the situation."

Madonna, who is a mother to six children - Lourdes, 26, Rocco, 22, 17-year-olds David and Mercy, 17, and 10-year-old twins Stella and Estere - had her eldest daughter Lourdes at her bedside throughout the ordeal.

While Madonna remains close with her family, including her 92-year-old father Silvio Ciccone, and several of her three sisters and four brothers, the rest of the family largely stay out of the limelight.

The unexpected health scare reportedly case after Madonna was putting in the hours to perfect her tour, often leading to long, six-days-a-week rehearsal schedules. However, the source added: "This really woke her the f*** up."

Madonna’s family has now explicitly banned tour discussions around her bedside as her recovery takes precedence, the relative further added, emphasizing the fact that Madonna, true to her perfectionist nature, often places her career and fame above her health.

According to Page Six's exclusive coverage, the 64-year-old songstress was intubated for a brief period and is now alert and recuperating.

The global superstar's health scare was brought to public attention by her longtime manager, Guy Oseary, through an Instagram post, revealing the postponement of her much-anticipated 40th-anniversary tour due to her health struggles.

Updating fans on Instagram, Oseary revealed that Madonna "developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several day stay in the ICU."

While she is out of the ICU now, he added that she continues to be under medical supervision. However, he assured fans that "a full recovery is expected."

A source confirmed to DailyMail.com that the singer is now "out of the ICU and recovering."

The Madonna: The Celebration Tour, originally scheduled from July 15, 2023, to January 30, 2024, was set to feature 84 shows across cities in North America and Europe. However, the singer's recent health scare has led to an indefinite postponement, casting a shadow over the excitement of fans eagerly waiting for her return to the stage.

Meanwhile, the singer's well-being has come under scrutiny in recent months, with the finger facing speculation about her changing appearance on social media. A source reported to DailyMail.com that the star was affected by the criticism and was taking steps to return to her more natural self ahead of the tour.
