A man has been arrested and charged after allegedly hitting Bebe Rexha in the face with a cell phone.
On Sunday (June 18), singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha was playing a gig at The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York as part of her Best F'n Night Of My Life tour when she was injured by a device that was pelted at her.
The 33-year-old was in the middle of performing one of her hits when she started approaching the audience. Then out of nowhere, a cell phone was hurled from a distance, hitting the star directly in the face.
She immediately doubles over in pain before falling to her knees.
A video of the moment taken by a fan in attendance was reposted to Twitter by Pop Base where it received thousands of comments from other concerned fans.
Rexha was taken in for medical examination and her mother later revealed that she needed three stitches just above her eye where the phone had the most impact.
After the event, the musician herself took to social media to update her fans about her condition.
Posting to both Instagram and TikTok, the 'Say My Name' hitmaker posted a series of photos and videos of her injury, letting her followers know that despite the bruising and the stitches, she was in stable condition.
Over on TikTok, she quoted one of her own lines in her hit 'I'm Good' featuring David Guetta to add some light-hearted vibes to an otherwise extremely serious incident.
Thousands of fans took to the comments to send the star kind messages of support during this difficult time, with many slamming the perpetrator that acted so recklessly at her show.
In the wake of the shocking event, the New York Police Department released a statement after conducting an investigation into the matter.
"On Sunday, June 18, 2023 at approximately 2200 hours, police were notified of an assault that occurred at the concert space of Pier 17 located at 89 South Street, within the confines of the 1st Precinct," a update by the NYPD stated. "A preliminary investigation on scene determined that a 27-year-old male intentionally threw a cell phone at a 33-year-old female performer on stage, striking her about the face.
"The individual was taken into custody on scene and removed to the 1st Precinct for arrest processing. The aided female was removed by EMS to an area hospital in stable condition," the statement added before revealing that the suspect, now named as Nicolas Malvagna, has also been arrested and charged.
Per a Rolling Stone report, Malvagna allegedly said he thought it would be "funny" to see if he could "hit her."
"I was trying to see if I could hit her with the phone at the end of the show because it would be funny," he allegedly stated.
Well, no one's laughing, are they?
We hope to see the star back doing what she does best! Get well soon, Bebe Rexha!
