Meghan Trainor has recently issued an apology after she made some controversial comments about teachers.
The 29-year-old singer took to TikTok to address some "careless" comments she made during an episode of her Workin’ On It podcast.
On April 19, during a discussion about the difficulties of parenthood as well as school shootings with guest Trisha Paytas, Trainor got extremely heated when talking about the reasons she would be homeschooling their kids in the future.
She went on to state that one of the biggest reasons for her decision comes from the fact that she and her husband, Daryl Sabara, were both bullied by their former educators.
"Everyone on TikTok is like, 'This is what it’s like having kids in America. I have a bulletproof backpack.' I was like, f*** all that... F*** teachers, dude," Trainor told Paytas.
After the episode aired, user @GalsGotMoxie on TikTok (who is a teacher herself) called out the 'All About That Bass' singer, referring to her take as "mean" and "out-of-touch."
Since then, the mom-of-two, who is also currently pregnant with her second child with Sabara, recognized the backlash and issued an apology to teachers worldwide.
"Teachers of TikTok and teachers of the world, I recently said 'F teachers' on the podcast and it’s not how I feel," Trainor said in the one-minute clip. "I was fired up because we were talking about how sending your kid to school here in America is so horrific."
She continued: "I did not mean [to say that about] all teachers. I love teachers, I fight for teachers. I think they have the hardest job and they are the most underpaid. They are the most unappreciated when they literally raise all of us. I don’t want to make excuses, I just want to [say] I am so sorry."
The 29-year-old also added that she will be more "careful" before she makes such generalizing comments.
"I am so sorry to any teachers I made feel bad and I will remind myself that my words definitely could have a consequence and I will be more careful."
Check out Trainor's apology video:The video has since been viewed 1.9 million times and has garnered thousands of comments in a short space of time.
"It’s not just you," wrote one user. "The line between 'f teachers' and 'teachers are heroes' is too thin and we all cross it too often. It doesn’t help anyone."
"Unfortunately, this is the perspective our students are being taught to take at home. We are seeing behaviors unlike anything we’ve seen before," added another.
Others also recalled their own experiences at school.
"I get ignored, overlooked, talked over, cussed at, stuff stolen/broken, called from all over telling me I’m not doing enough. I’m tired. So sad," this user wrote, while another added: "Sending children to school is horrific yes but being the teacher in that classroom at the time having to protect their students & them is scary too."
And this TikToker stated that while they understood where she was coming from, her comments still "kinda sucked."
"I get why you said it. But knowing how underpaid and unappreciated we are it kinda sucked. There are some WONDERFUL teachers who actually care."
After seeing the apology video, the original podcast clip stitcher, @GalsGotMoxie, reposted the video and thanked Trainor for it and said it was "very much appreciated."
