Candace Owens has threatened to sue Cardi B over comments she made about her on Twitter, following Owens' criticism of the rapper's recent performance of her summer hit 'WAP' at the Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Pink News reports that the 31-year-old conservative writer and pundit criticized the rapper's provocative dance routine in an extended tirade in a segment on Fox News, which aired on Monday, March 15.

In it, Owens lambasted the artist's performance as overly-sexual and inappropriate, stating: "Parents should be terrified that this is the direction that our society is heading toward.

"Again, we are weakening America… We are setting the stage, and it feels like we are looking at corrosion like we are about to see the end of an empire."

In a series of now-deleted Tweets, Cardi B later messaged the Blackout author for the free publicity the Fox News segment had garnered her, stating that Owens' discussion of the routine: "boosted the views on YouTube and is counting towards my streams and sales."

However, Owens was unimpressed by these remarks, and took to Twitter in reply, writing that she wasn't taking issue with the rapper's success, but with the influence she held over culture and the minds of young people, adding that she didn't think that Cardi B's exhibitionism should be presented as aspirational.

Addressing the rapper by her real-life second name of Belcalis, Owens was apparently angered when Cardi B made reference to a tweet she made previously about making her husband a sandwich, and wrote back to her: "Every time you and I get into a Twitter exchange you keep bringing up this tweet so let reiterate.

"I still think you have potential. You are entertaining & funny— but you are not being that anymore. You have transformed into a stain on culture and what it means to be a woman."

She continued: "If you think making your husband a sandwich is a sin, but popping your v****a into another woman’s v****a in front of the world is power - you are a lost soul."

Pink News reports that the digital spat between the two women reached a crescendo when Cardi B posted a photoshopped a now-deleted tweet which allegedly showed Owens admitting that her husband cheated on her with her brother.

Owens responded: "What the actual hell are you talking about? Are you dead serious right now trying to substantiate a photoshopped tweet?

"Asking one more time before I get the lawyers to make you publicly admit you’re lying and embarrass yourself."

She continued: "FYI I DO have a brother, a private citizen, who you are slandering right now with this photoshopped image that you are now publicly claiming you saw tweeted in real life. You want to admit you lied now, or get sued so I can expose you as a liar? I win either way. [sic]"

Owens then stated: "This looks like a random blog that seems to have been dumb enough to have fallen for a photoshopped tweet.

"You tweeted that the photoshopped tweet was real and you saw it on a day that I was trending—which is a lie. You made that part up to help circulate a slanderous lie."

She added: "Yes. Just spoke with my family. I am 100% suing Cardi for that nonsense. You can’t just start throwing out wild lies against private members of my family because you’re upset someone called your out on your degenerate performance. I‘ll keep you all posted."

Vulture reports that Cardi responded with threats of legal action herself, writing in a now-unavailable tweet: "I’m going to sue candy for claiming I photoshopped a tweet that dozens of articles reported about back in November 2016z.

"First she claim me and my team photoshopped it now it was a fake tweet. Which one is it. Everyone is free to Google. [sic]"
