Lady Gaga's engagement to fiancé Christian Carino has reportedly been called off
Lady Gaga has allegedly split from her fiancé Christian Carino, confirming weeks of speculation from fans that their relationship had gone south. A spokesperson representing the singer and actress confirmed the news of her breakup on Tuesday evening in a statement made to the Associated Press.
Another source told People magazine that: "It just didn’t work out. Relationships sometimes end. There’s no long dramatic story."
Previously, another insider told ET that, although Gaga was excited about her nuptials, she was too busy to actually commit to a wedding date, stating: "She is constantly telling those close to her how grateful she is to be at this point in her life and work with such incredible artists and be with the man she loves so dearly, Gaga is incredibly elated about her engagement, but because of how busy she's been with [A Star is Born], she can't even begin to think about a wedding."
Fans first began speculating that began that the couple was on a break after noticing that Gaga wasn't actually wearing her engagement ring at the Grammy Awards, and after her song Shallow won the best pop duo or group performance prize, Gaga didn't mention him in her acceptance speech. Although Gaga had taken Carino with her to other award shows, such as the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Golden Globes, he was nowhere to be seen at the all-important Grammys.
On Twitter, Gaga fans have expressed their sympathy for the couple after the breakup. A number of other fans think that the breakup might have something to do with Gaga's onscreen chemistry with Bradley Cooper, and wonder if the two of them could end up as an item. For instance, one Twitter-user wrote: "LADY GAGA HAS ENDED HER ENGAGEMENT ITS ALLLLL HAPPENINGGGGGGG RUN TO BRADLEY RUNNNNN [sic]" while another person tweeted: "Tbh I always thought he was more into it than she was. [sic]"
The couple first hooked up back in 2017 at the Super Bowl, and since then Carino helped Gaga celebrate her 31st birthday, took her to the Hamptons that summer, and proposed not long after. Previously, Gaga was engaged to Taylor Kinney, but she broke off that engagement in 2016, citing that her career had interfered with their relationship when pressed for a reason for the split.
It certainly is a shame that Lady Gaga's wedding hasn't panned out, but to be fair, I can't imagine that she'll be single for too long.
