Spider-Man: No Way Home star Jacob Batalon may not have had to squeeze into a lycra superhero suit.

But the actor - who plays Spider-Man sidekick Ned Leeds in the hit trilogy - has still transformed his body with a rigorous training regime.

The 25-year-old has dropped over 100 pounds since embarking on a health kick in 2020. In an interview with Men's Health, he opened up about his dramatic weight loss.

"I decided to get into this sort of transformation, or this sort of journey, with my health and fitness at the end of 2019," he told the magazine.

"Even when I wasn’t doing anything physical, I found myself getting sleepy at work and it was because of all the fat food I was eating."

"I felt like I could barely walk upstairs without being out of breath," he added.

Batalon recalled the wake-up moment when he decided enough was enough.

"One day I kind of just saw myself without a shirt on and it was just ridiculous. I could not believe I let myself get this far. That’s what sort of started it all," he said.

The star embarked on a training regime fit for a superhero. With the help of his personal trainer, he hit the gym six times a week for an hour of weightlifting and 30 minutes of cardio. Since then, he's lost an incredible 112 pounds.

But it wasn't exercising alone that helped Batalon transform his physique.
"Recently my girlfriend has actually gotten me into a plant-based diet, as well, and that's really helped my body and I can feel the difference between eating a lot of meat and eating plant-based stuff and that's really helped me, as well," he said.
Now that he's in a much healthier place, Batalon hopes his transformation can inspire other people, saying: "If there’s anything that I’d want to say to anyone who’s trying to start a journey like myself, I think that the first step is to just do it."

As well as staring in the most recent Spider-Man film alongside Tom Holland and Zendaya, Batalon is set to play the lead in a new SyFy series Reginald the Vampire, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The show - which is based on Johnny B. Truant's 'Fat Vampire' books - follows Batalon's unlikely hero Reginald as he navigates the underground world of blood-suckers.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is in cinemas now.
