Sydney Sweeney has opened up about her own precarious financial situation and revealed that studios don't pay actors "like they used to."
The 24-year-old actress emerged as one of the industry’s most in-demand young actors. Since her breakout role in HBO's Euphoria, she has been nominated for Emmy awards and was recently cast in the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff: Madame Web.
However, in her latest interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress admitted that she wouldn’t be able to afford to take a six-month break from acting due to the costs that come with her career.
The Voyeurs actress further explained that she would be unable to live in Los Angeles without additional income from non-acting work, such as promoting fashion brands like Armani and Miu Miu.
Sweeney revealed to the outlet that she's always wanted to be a "young mom" but she's worried about how the industry "puts stigmas on young women" who choose to have children and "looks at them in a different light".
"I was worried that, if I don’t work, there is no money and no support for kids I would have," she said, continuing, "If I wanted to take a six-month break, I don't have [the] income to cover that."
Sweeney, who plays Cassie Howard in the hit drama, said that she also doesn't have any extra support from family or friends for help with bills if she ever took a break.
The White Lotus actress also went into detail about how her acting paycheck is broken down, saying that Hollywood doesn't pay actors "like they used to" adding that, "with streamers, you no longer get residuals".
"The established stars still get paid, but I have to give 5 percent to my lawyer, 10 percent to my agents, 3 percent or something like that to my business manager," she said. "I have to pay my publicist every month, and that’s more than my mortgage."
Elsewhere in the same interview, Sweeney opened up about filming nude scenes in shows, saying: "I have no problems with those scenes, and I won't stop doing them."
However, she "wishes" that there was an "easier way" to have an open dialogue about what people are "assuming about actors" in Hollywood.
