It seems as though Matty Healy has finally seen the light and has now offered up an apology to fans for his "misguided attempts at being a rockstar."
It's no secret that The 1975's frontman has been causing havoc in the music industry for the best part of a decade now and while at first, it may have been considered "quirky" or "cool", soon enough certain comments he made were considered toxic - so toxic in fact, that a bunch of his own fans canceled him.
From racist and misogynistic remarks about Ice Spice (which it has now been confirmed that he apologized to the rapper for) to admitting he masturbates to videos of women being 'brutalized', to constantly destroying stage set-ups in the name of being a "rock star", the 34-year-old has really rubbed people up the wrong way.
This type of destructive behavior has also seen Healy getting himself in trouble with the law.
The artist was sued after allegedly breaking Malaysian laws at a gig in the country that saw him make out with the band's bassist Ross MacDonald.
The festival in which the controversial kiss occurred was later canceled by Malaysia’s Ministry of Communications and Digital with the festival later stating: "The Ministry has underlined its unwavering stance against any parties that challenge, ridicule, or contravene Malaysian laws... we sincerely apologize to all our ticket holders, vendors, sponsors, and partners. We are aware of the time, energy, and efforts you have put into making this festival a success, and we value your steadfast support."
It was also reported that the band was sued for allegedly breaching a contract that promised that they would adhere to "all local guidelines and regulations."
In the wake of the long line of drama that seemingly follows the chaotic singer everywhere, he has apologized as he revealed he had been attempting to play into the character of a "21st-century rock star."
Taking to the stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California, Healy said: "Because some of my actions have hurt some people, I apologize to those people, and I pledge to do better moving forward."
He continued: "I think it's also important that I express my intentions, so everybody knows that there is no ill will coming from me. You see, as an artist, I want to create an environment for myself to perform where not everything that I do is taken literally..."
He then went on to state that he's "kind of performed exaggerated versions of myself on other stages be it print or on podcasts in an often misguided attempt at fulfilling the kind of character role of the 21st-century rock star" before describing the attitude as "complicated."
"Sometimes playing pretend is the only way you can truly find out who you are, and you could probably also say that men would rather do offensive impressions for attention than go to therapy," he added.
It comes as The 1975 announced that they would be going on an "indefinite hiatus" on stage during the opening night at Golden 1 Center in California.
"It’s wonderful you’re all here, after this tour, we will be going on an indefinite hiatus with shows, so it’s wonderful to have you guys with us tonight. Thank you so much," Healy told the crowd in attendance.
