Matty Healy is once again at the center of controversy after eating a raw steak on stage which left fans absolutely shocked.
On Sunday (July 2), the 34-year-old lead singer of The 1975 performed in Finsbury Park, London alongside fellow bands including Cigarettes After Sex, Bleachers, Japanese House, and American Football.
At the end of the set, Healy began to unbutton his shirt, drink wine straight from the bottle, and even sink his teeth into a chunk of raw steak...
As if that didn't weird the crowd out enough, the 'Somebody Else' musician concluded by kicking off his shoes and doing push-ups before climbing head-first into a TV set.
Watch the videos below:The horrifying footage from the concert has circulated on social media, with many people sharing their stunned reactions to the absurd stunt.
One user said: "Everything I learn about him is against my own will," while another user commented: "I don't understand how people still like this man and go to his concerts...like atp what do yall still see in him just let him go."
A third user on Twitter remarked: "If Matty Healy eats that steak at trnsmt I am going to physically spew over everyone around me."
And, a fourth person said: "Matty Healy eating some raw meat, doing 27 push-ups, and crawling through a hole has to be the weirdest end to a concert maybe ever, and yet I’m not even slightly surprised."
The raw steak-eating incident comes after the 'Girls' singer was seemingly called out for racism by Japanese-British artist, Rina Sawayama, at Glastonbury Festival.
The 32-year-old pop star took a moment during her set on June 24 to explain why she wrote her song 'STFU!', sharing that it was because she was "sick and tired of microaggressions"
"So, tonight, this song goes out to a white man who watches Ghetto Gaggers and mocks Asian people on a podcast," Sawayama said, seemingly referring to Healy. "He also owns my masters. I've had enough."
Back in February, Healy appeared on a podcast - hosted by Adam Friedland and others - and mocked rapper Ice Spice by making remarks about her imagined accent and heritage, wrongly identified as Chinese, Hawaiian, and Inuit, per The Guardian.
In addition to this, he even admitted to watching racially controversial pornography titled 'Ghetto Gaggers' - which Sawayama mentioned during her speech - and referred to a scene that "brutalized" women.
People made the connection that the 'XS' singer was publically calling him out as she is signed to Dirty Hit - a record label that also releases 1975’s music, and is run by the band's manager Jamie Oborne. Healy was a director of the company between December 2018 and April 2023.
The 'About You' singer's comments were condemned by ESEA Music, an organization led by UK-based East and Southeast Asian music industry professionals and artists. According to the outlet, they alleged that Healy encouraged "flagrant racism and complicity in laughing along at harmful Asian tropes".
