In last year's season finale to The Bachelor, Arie chose Becca to be his future wife. Then, just as they were about to start their lives together in Peru, he had a change of heart. He cruelly broke off their engagement, confessing he was in love with the runner-up, Lauren. "Just leave!" cried Becca, heartbroken. After what seemed like an eternity, he finally walked out the door, leaving Becca crying on the couch.
Pretty shocking, right? However, something even more surprising happened on the Vietnamese version of The Bachelor. On last week's episode, bachelor Nguyen Quoc Trung eliminated contestant Minh Thu during the dramatic rose ceremony. However, instead trying to change his mind, Thu confessed that she was in love with another contestant.
"I went into this competition to find love," Thu told Trung, as tears rolled down her face. I’ve found that love for myself, but it isn’t with you. It’s with someone else." Shen then walked over to contestant Truc Nhu, standing next to the other ladies, holding a rose. "Come home with me," Thu asked Nhu. "Come home with me. Yeah?"
Nhu appeared to agree and walked over to Trung. "I'm sorry," she said. "I really want to get to know you because you're someone who made me feel special, and I haven't felt that way in a long time."
Trung asked Nhu if she would feel regretful. "This doesn’t change my decision," he explained. "I’m not going to give this rose to anyone else. You only get one chance in this life, and you need to take it." The host agreed with Trung, and told Nhu she shouldn't pass up this special connection. But apparently her mind was made up. She handed him back the rose, and left with Thu.
The incredible moment went viral, with viewers calling it the "wildest rose ceremony ever." Several Twitter users felt emotional, and called the historic episode a win for LGBT representation. Gay marriage is legal in Vietnam, but same-sex couples lack many of the the same rights as straight couples.
Some people were mad at the host and bachelor for trying to convince Nhu to stay. Stop guilt-tripping her with this "once in a lifetime opportunity" crap! Let her and Thu live happily ever after!
Well, if you ship Thu and Nhu, you should stop reading this article now. According to a screenshot obtained by NextShark, Nhu returned to the show after making her dramatic exit. "After talking to Trung, I've changed my mind to accept this rose and continue this journey," she reportedly said. To quote one Twitter user, "WTF HAPPENED?"
So, who do we blame for destroying love? The host and the bachelor for persuading Nhu to stay? The Bachelor producers, for refusing to allow a spontaneous moment interfere with their plan? Or did Nhu really have feelings for Trung, and want to explore? Whatever the answer, this is the most surprising turn of events in Bachelor history.
