Have you heard about Henry Cavill's moustache? If you spend your time finding memes and liking tweets in your spare time like me, you probably have. If not, you're probably wondering why in the hell you should give a damn about Superman's facial hair. But there's a strange and pretty hilarious story behind it that has had the internet obsessed for months.
Whether you liked them or not, the recent DC superhero movies haven't been doing so well. First Man of Steel, where Cavill debuted his version of Clark Kent, caused a bit of controversy with its hero's seeming disregard for mass destruction. Then, Batman V Superman received a very mixed reception, followed up by their answer to The Avengers: the Justice League.

While the Justice League pre-date the Avengers by a long time in the comics, they had some catching up to do in the movies, but the movie woefully underperformed at the box office. In fact, one of the most memorable things to come out of it was Henry Cavill's moustache - or, his lack of one.
The actor signed on for a role in the upcoming Mission: Impossible: Fallout, but reshoots for Justice League overlapped with this filming. As he had grown a moustache for his spy role, he was required to shave it off to be Superman once more - but Paramount didn't want him to. Eventually, Warner Bros were forced to accept this and ended up spending millions on CGI to remove the moustache.
While they might have thought it was a great idea, the internet relentlessly made fun of the decision for months, especially with how it turned out.

Pretty much everyone got on his case, including Ryan Reynolds. In typical Deadpool fashion, the merc-with-a-mouth dropped a reference to the moustache incident in the trailer for the superhero sequel. Even the director, Zack Snyder, mocked the CGI moustache removal:
[[twitterwidget||https://twitter.com/davidlee1907/status/968886930518757377]]
Not done there, the internet even mixed in one of 2017's other popular memes - the distracted boyfriend. When memes like this collide, hilarity ensues:

But now the time has come for Cavill to say goodbye to his moustache, which the internet has now dubbed 'Kingstache' (for some reason). Luckily, the actor has a great sense of humor with all the attention his facial hair has received, recently posting an Instagram video captioned "#ShavedButNotForgotten".
"I know, it's hard to recognize me without the Kingstache," he says in the video. "Sometimes I even have trouble recognizing myself."
[[instagramwidget||https://www.instagram.com/p/BglGdfyFRri/?hl=en&taken-by=henrycavill]]
"It's hard for me to admit... this is not CGI. He's really gone," he adds, before the video goes into a hilarious loving montage of his memories with the infamous Kingstache.
It's been months of funny tweets, hilarious memes, and mocking posts, but the moustache-gate saga has finally come to a close. But like Cavill says, it may be shaved - but it is not forgotten.

You wouldn't think that recreating an internet meme in real life would be easy. After all, most of the time, images and videos become memetic by complete accident. It's therefore almost impossible to replicate them. But what if you were to recreate an internet meme by accident, saving you all the bother of staging everything just-so? Then you'd really be on to something.

In case you've never heard of the image macro before, then allow me to enlighten you. The stock image, taken by photographer Antonio Guillem, was originally posted to iStock back in 2015, entitled: "Disloyal man with his girlfriend looking at another girl." (shown below). Not long after, a Tumblr-user edited the image with captions to make it seem like the man turning his head was considering going after something else instead. Social media users found it hilarious, decided to use the picture as a template, and thus a meme was born.
[[instagramwidget||https://www.instagram.com/p/BtMc9_SnBbG/]]
There have been many attempts to replicate the meme over the years, but now it seems as though a celebrity has finally managed to recreate it properly. School of Rock actor Jack Black recently launched his own gaming channel on YouTube, Jablinski Games. Flash forward to two months later and he now boasts around 3.8 million subscribers.
In a recent vlog post, Black took a stroll around Atlanta during filming for the next Jumanji movie. That was was when he passed a young couple on the sidewalk. As he passed them, the dude craned his neck around for a better look at the star, which made for an eerie recreation of the famous meme. Luckily, for those who missed the all-important moment, Twitter-user @StoicIDir uploaded a clip of the scene, to the delight of many.
[[youtubewidget||https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfK4NTWDJ60]]
In a recent interview about his meme, Antonio Guillem stated: "Because we were having a great sales response to our work, we decided to take a few risks planning a session representing the infidelity concept in relationships in a playful and fun way.
"As I always work with the same models, it was quite easy to create the situation even though it was quite challenging to achieve face expressions that were believable. Mainly, because we always have a really great work atmosphere and almost all the time one of the models was laughing while we were trying to take the picture."
Meanwhile, the model who played the girlfriend stated: "For me, it was a curious and funny photo shoot, especially when we had to make the photos like the meme, more humorous. When people saw us simulate those scenes in the street, they stopped to look and laugh - in my case, I had to have a more serious face. I had a hard time keeping it."

I'm not sure why this keeps happening to actors who play superheroes, but much like Henry Cavill, Chris Evans's facial hair has become an obsession for many fans online.
While Cavill's Superman mustache debacle was an object of ridicule when it was CGI'd out of Justice League, Chris Evans' beard received plenty of positive responses when it first appeared in the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War last November.
[[youtubewidget||https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZfuNTqbHE8]]
In fact, it's fair to say that Marvel fans went a little nuts over the inclusion. Following the open-ended conclusion of his last movie, Captain America: Civil War, Cap appeared in the trailer looking quite a bit different. With his costume darkened, his mask gone and a full beard on his face, it looked like he's been through the ringer.
Regardless, people were happy to see the new look on Twitter:

The trailer obviously hit #1 on YouTube's trending list, and ended up being the most viewed movie trailer of all time within 24 hours, with 230 million views to its name. It was also the most mentioned trailer on Twitter, according to Fizziology. And their stats didn't end there, either. In terms of key moments talked about in the trailer, "Captain America's beard" came in first with over 20,000 mentions just a few hours after the trailer's release.
A lot of the talk about Infinity War, which is going to be the biggest crossover movie event of all time, has been about which characters are going to make it out alive. Adding to the rumors, Evans made some comments recently in an interview with The New York Times, where he said he will be hanging up the shield in the near future.
[[instagramwidget||https://www.instagram.com/p/BgjXHhWHttt/?hl=en&taken-by=teamcevans]]
His contract technically ends after the fourth Avengers film, set to be released in 2019. Last year he said he'd be "open" to sticking around in the role, and a number of actors have been known to re-up their contracts when they run out, but not this time. He is quoted as saying he "has no plans" to return to this world after the as-of-yet untitled Avengers 4, stating that "you want to get off the train before they push you off".
In addition to this, the New York Times revealed something even more serious: his beard has gone, leaving behind what the NY Times called a "formidable mustache". First off Reggie Ugwu, pop culture reporter for the New York times, tweeted out the profile he wrote on the actor. "Would you like to meet Chris Evans's new mustache?" they wrote.

To say his legions of fans are conflicted over the new facial accessory is a severe understatement.

Not everyone was upset about the change, however.

As Jackson McHenry said, Henry Cavill's stache died so that Chris Evans' stache could live, but at least Cavill gave his mustache a brilliant send-off in this Instagram video.

Social media's influence on popular culture cannot be denied. Just think back to the Nineties, when the term almost exclusively referred to offbeat sartorial trends (I'm looking at you, Justin and Britney), MTV music videos and TRL's commentary on all of the above. In 2018, however, we're more content with letting our freak flag fly - spending hours tagging our friends in memes, creating GIFs and laughing over the fact that Nicole Kidman doesn't know how to clap.
One celebrity who has been made into countless memes and GIFs is Keanu Reeves. I mean, you must be living under a rock if you haven't seen the sad Keanu meme, and now it appears that the internet has conjured up a rather bizarre, albeit fitting, conspiracy theory about him too.
[[instagramwidget||https://www.instagram.com/p/Bc3WneTlb6U/?hl=en&taken-by=keanureevesofficialfanpage]]
We're only three months into 2018, and we've had teenagers eating tide pods, alleged "time travellers" revealing their finds, and now, a conspiracy theory involving everyone's favourite punching bag, Keanu Reeves.
It's evident that several of Hollywood's finest have managed to defy the passing of time. There's the veritable vampire that is Paul Rudd, Queen Bey, and Reeves who appears not to have aged since his Matrix days. Now, in regards to the latter, the people of the internet have a theory more compelling than his hearty bank balance and a swanky skincare regimen - and it's that he's immortal.
Let's check out the evidence, shall we? First, there's this painting of the French actor, Paul Mounet, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Keanu.
I mean, they're both actors, right? And just check out this photograph - it couldn't possibly be anyone other than Keanu.
And that's not all. If you look back at his Bill and Ted days, it's clear that Keanu hasn't aged a day. That, or, he needs to let us in on who his dermatologist is.
[[instagramwidget||https://www.instagram.com/p/Bf6GDlnBbhn/?tagged=billandted]]
The actor has even alluded to his purported immortality. While working on The Matrix, Reeves allegedly donated $75 million to crew on the special effects and costume teams. Speaking back in 1991, he said "Money is the last thing I think about. I could live on what I have already made for the next few centuries." Well, isn't that handy?
But while contending with all the practicalities of being immortal, Keanu has been keeping himself busy with acting work. He's set to appear in a new action epic by Rick Famuyiwa that's exclusive to Netflix. Deadline reports that Past Midnight is described as "a feature about a new kind of vigilante superhero", and that Keanu is set to have the starring role.
Right now, however, the actor is working on The Starling, Rally Car, Replicas, Siberia, Destination Wedding, and the television mini-series, Rain.
I guess you have to keep yourself busy when there's no end in sight...
In other news, Keanu Reeves has been running a secret cancer foundation which funds children's hospitals.
