Have you heard about Henry Cavill's moustache? If you spend your time finding memes and liking tweets in your spare time like me, you probably have. If not, you're probably wondering why in the hell you should give a damn about Superman's facial hair. But there's a strange and pretty hilarious story behind it that has had the internet obsessed for months.
Whether you liked them or not, the recent DC superhero movies haven't been doing so well. First Man of Steel, where Cavill debuted his version of Clark Kent, caused a bit of controversy with its hero's seeming disregard for mass destruction. Then, Batman V Superman received a very mixed reception, followed up by their answer to The Avengers: the Justice League.

While the Justice League pre-date the Avengers by a long time in the comics, they had some catching up to do in the movies, but the movie woefully underperformed at the box office. In fact, one of the most memorable things to come out of it was Henry Cavill's moustache - or, his lack of one.
The actor signed on for a role in the upcoming Mission: Impossible: Fallout, but reshoots for Justice League overlapped with this filming. As he had grown a moustache for his spy role, he was required to shave it off to be Superman once more - but Paramount didn't want him to. Eventually, Warner Bros were forced to accept this and ended up spending millions on CGI to remove the moustache.
While they might have thought it was a great idea, the internet relentlessly made fun of the decision for months, especially with how it turned out.

Pretty much everyone got on his case, including Ryan Reynolds. In typical Deadpool fashion, the merc-with-a-mouth dropped a reference to the moustache incident in the trailer for the superhero sequel. Even the director, Zack Snyder, mocked the CGI moustache removal:

Not done there, the internet even mixed in one of 2017's other popular memes - the distracted boyfriend. When memes like this collide, hilarity ensues:

But now the time has come for Cavill to say goodbye to his moustache, which the internet has now dubbed 'Kingstache' (for some reason). Luckily, the actor has a great sense of humor with all the attention his facial hair has received, recently posting an Instagram video captioned "#ShavedButNotForgotten".
"I know, it's hard to recognize me without the Kingstache," he says in the video. "Sometimes I even have trouble recognizing myself."

"It's hard for me to admit... this is not CGI. He's really gone," he adds, before the video goes into a hilarious loving montage of his memories with the infamous Kingstache.
It's been months of funny tweets, hilarious memes, and mocking posts, but the moustache-gate saga has finally come to a close. But like Cavill says, it may be shaved - but it is not forgotten.

Today saw the latest trailer for Deadpool 2 drop and audiences around the world have been celebrating the return of the much heralded Marvel character. The vulgar and inappropriate anti-hero, who is played by Ryan Reynolds, has proved to be a major hit universally, with the first instalment of the movie grossing $783 million and going on to become the highest-grossing R rated movie of all time.
Reynolds co-wrote the screenplay across an 11 year period, in which he says that he had "been on the train for 11 years trying to get it made. We did every iteration of that script we could to allow them to make the movie that looked vaguely like the movie we wanted to make."
After years of pitching the movie to Fox, Reynolds decided to take the role of Green Lantern while continuing to beg the production company to green-light a Deadpool movie.
"Right before I took Green Lantern, I wrote a letter to my executive at Fox saying, ‘I’m gonna take this movie Green Lantern if you guys aren’t gonna make Deadpool. 'I'm at the altar, about to say "I do" to somebody else, but tell me you want to spend the rest of your life with me, because I want to spend the rest of my life with you.'
"And they said, 'Unfortunately, we can't green-light that movie, and I don't think it's gonna ever get green-lit.'"
Green Lantern went on to bomb at the box office and then, after footage of Deadpool leaked online, Fox finally took notice and gave Reynolds and his team the smallest budget they possibly could in order to make the movie.
Now, after such a successful debut, Deadpool is back and, according to the longline issued from Fox, it's set to be just as bizarre as ever.
"After surviving a near-fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry's hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste.
"Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor—finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World's Best Lover."
The trailer (of course) features plenty of NSFW language, violence and inappropriate jokes. In the clip Deadpool assembles a large team of allies that are similar to the X-Men, but a lot less noble. "I can't let Cable kill this kid, but I can't do this alone. We're going to form a super duper f—king group. We need 'em tough, morally flexible and young enough to carry their own franchise for 10 to 12 years," he explains to Weasel (T.J. Miller). "We will be known as X-Force."

However, it was one line in particular that had audiences laughing. The trailer ends with a joke involving Reynolds wife, Blake Lively, and one of her first ever films. “Doing the right thing is messy, but if you wanna fight for what’s right, sometimes you have to fight dirty," he says. "That is why Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is pure pornography.”
Given the nature of the couple, with them having previous when it comes to trolling one another, there can be no doubt that Lively will find a way to strike back.
Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 debuts in theatres May 18, 2018.

I'm not sure why this keeps happening to actors who play superheroes, but much like Henry Cavill, Chris Evans's facial hair has become an obsession for many fans online.
While Cavill's Superman mustache debacle was an object of ridicule when it was CGI'd out of Justice League, Chris Evans' beard received plenty of positive responses when it first appeared in the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War last November.

In fact, it's fair to say that Marvel fans went a little nuts over the inclusion. Following the open-ended conclusion of his last movie, Captain America: Civil War, Cap appeared in the trailer looking quite a bit different. With his costume darkened, his mask gone and a full beard on his face, it looked like he's been through the ringer.
Regardless, people were happy to see the new look on Twitter:

The trailer obviously hit #1 on YouTube's trending list, and ended up being the most viewed movie trailer of all time within 24 hours, with 230 million views to its name. It was also the most mentioned trailer on Twitter, according to Fizziology. And their stats didn't end there, either. In terms of key moments talked about in the trailer, "Captain America's beard" came in first with over 20,000 mentions just a few hours after the trailer's release.
A lot of the talk about Infinity War, which is going to be the biggest crossover movie event of all time, has been about which characters are going to make it out alive. Adding to the rumors, Evans made some comments recently in an interview with The New York Times, where he said he will be hanging up the shield in the near future.

His contract technically ends after the fourth Avengers film, set to be released in 2019. Last year he said he'd be "open" to sticking around in the role, and a number of actors have been known to re-up their contracts when they run out, but not this time. He is quoted as saying he "has no plans" to return to this world after the as-of-yet untitled Avengers 4, stating that "you want to get off the train before they push you off".
In addition to this, the New York Times revealed something even more serious: his beard has gone, leaving behind what the NY Times called a "formidable mustache". First off Reggie Ugwu, pop culture reporter for the New York times, tweeted out the profile he wrote on the actor. "Would you like to meet Chris Evans's new mustache?" they wrote.

To say his legions of fans are conflicted over the new facial accessory is a severe understatement.

Not everyone was upset about the change, however.

As Jackson McHenry said, Henry Cavill's stache died so that Chris Evans' stache could live, but at least Cavill gave his mustache a brilliant send-off in this Instagram video.
