A father who was diagnosed with cancer was faced with the tragic dilemma of choosing between treating his own disease or helping his daughter after she was also diagnosed with cancer.

Roberto Ávila Brambila was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2021 and began treatment with the support of his wife Andrea González.

Tragically, the couple's daughter - also called Andrea - was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2022 at the age of just four years old.

Due to the cost of medical bills, Roberto couldn't afford to fund his own treatment as well as his daughter's, so he was forced to choose between treating himself or his child.

Selflessly, Roberto put his daughter's needs before his own and stopped having treatment in order for Andrea to have a better chance at life.

Sadly, Roberto passed away in June 2022 and his wife shared a heartfelt message on her Facebook page.

She wrote: "You kept your promise, you didn't give up, for you it didn't stay, now I know you will continue with the promise of always watching over Andy and me from heaven, we will miss you so much, I will fulfill my promise and take care of our princess. I love you babe, forever."

Andrea remained in intensive care following her father's death and her mother shared posts asking for everybody to pray for the young girl.

Sadly, the four-year-old's health declined and she lost her life just months after she was first diagnosed, in the same year as her father.

Following the young girl's passing, her mother wrote: "This is how I imagine them now, Andy, I always told you you are the bravest, strongest and most beautiful princess in the whole world, I am happy to be your mom, always.

"No more injections or doctors sweetheart, you take a piece of my heart with the yours, give lots of kisses to daddy, I here will wait until it's my turn to go with you, play a lot, I love you."

People flocked to the comments to offer their condolences, with one person saying: "It is a wound that never heals losing someone you love, but it is a wound that reminds you that you loved and with time you learn to live with it, live without regrets because you loved until the end."

A second added: "There are no words for this pain God give you a lot of comfort and strength I am sure that from paradise your beloved husband and daughter are taking care of you and are very happy in eternity."

Following the tragic loss of her husband and daughter, Andrea now uses her platform to spread awareness of others battling horrible diseases, so they can receive support for the medical care that they need.

Our heart goes out to Andrea.
