A flight attendant has revealed the types of footwear you should never wear on airplanes for the sake of comfort, safety, and suitability.

Being relaxed while flying is a non-negotiable for most people as some choose to wear sneakers, sandals, or even Crocs to ensure that their feet are comfortable.

However, an American Airlines flight attendant named Andrea Fischbach shared with WhatToWear a list of shoes you should not sport when you're 35,000 ft in the air.

Speaking to the outlet, she explained that high heels and backless sandals are among those not recommended because these shoes "make it difficult to quickly evacuate the aircraft".

"Heels can possibly cause further damage to emergency exits or hurt others if they go flying off somehow," Andrea explained. "I would really advise against high heels or flip-flops or any slides, mostly for safety purposes.

"If there is an evacuation and slides are required, your high heels will have to come off, as they can puncture the slide," she continued. "Who knows where and in what conditions you'll land. Plus, they aren't very practical running gate to gate."

You are probably wondering: What about flight attendants who model their heels on flights? Well, Andrea claims that even on-flight employees change their shoes after take-off because of their impracticality.

"As if another reason is needed, they make the metal detectors go off (if you are lucky enough to have pre-check) thanks to nails in the heels," she stated.

"Flip-flops and backless shoes can also end up flying off your feet, and your feet are more likely to freeze, especially during a long flight," the worker added.

In addition to this, she informed travelers that open shoes are unsanitary when using the airplane toilets, warning: "Be wary of wearing sandals if you are planning on going in the lavatory.

"That isn't water on the floor (yes, use your imagination), and sandals invite whatever that liquid is to splash on your feet," she concluded.

Apart from our shoes, well all want to feel cozy in our clothes. However, one aviation expert named Christine Negroni divulged to The Sun that leggings are not warranted for flying.

"You might have to escape through a cabin fire or there could be a separate fire on the ground once you leave the aircraft," she shared.

"Everyone is wearing yoga pants on planes now, but I avoid all artificial fibers because they are more likely to burn and stick to you if there is a fire," Christine went on. "I'd advise wearing cotton clothes or anything made of natural fibers."

Just like Andrea, Christine also advised people to stop removing their shoes during a flight, explaining: "If you escape an aircraft, the floor could be very hot or cold, it might be covered in oil or on fire, or in a cornfield – you won’t want to be barefoot.

"Mainly err on the side of caution. Pick sneakers over high heels, pick natural fibers over synthetic, and take tight-fitting clothes over loose-fitting," she concluded.

Well, it's best to take their advice.
