Woman, 41, saw a doctor about a hard lump near her ribs and gave birth to an 8lb baby the next day

41-year-old Sammy Evans thought that she’d sustained a minor injury in the gym when she found a strange lump near her ribs.
However, just a matter of hours later she gave birth to a baby that she had no idea about.
Sammy Evans appeared on TV to tell her story
Sammy, her partner Triston, and their delightful baby boy Noah appeared on UK morning TV show This Morning to tell their story.
It’s a strange one, to say the least.
This story is a powerful reminder that you should always get things checked out, as it might turn out that there is more to a small health concern than you think.
On this occasion, there was a happy and heartwarming ending for all concerned.
Sammy only found out that she was pregnant at nine months, and just hours later she gave birth to a baby boy weighing just eight pounds.
She’d been experiencing a few symptoms beforehand, such as pelvic heaviness, dryness, missed periods - which of course can be a classic indicator - and an unusual lump in her abdominal area.
She had also lost 10 stone (140lbs) in the not-too-distant past, so thought that those missed periods and change to her body shape could have been down to that.
After all, as we learned from Jelly Roll and his wife Bunny XO, losing a lot of weight can have a variety of effects on the body.
But Sammy had been exercising and losing lots of weight, so had no idea that she could be pregnant.
Until that all changed.
Doctors discovered the pregnancy just in time
After attending the doctors, she tested positive for a UTI (urinary tract infection) and then took a pregnancy test.
She thought that it had come back negative, but then later, a faint, telltale line appeared.
In the meantime, Sammy was still blissfully unware, even attending a water aerobics class in the meantime.
Then, another test at home confirmed the news.
There wasn’t much time to process the news, as Sammy developed abdominal pain and thought that she might have been having a miscarriage, but tests showed a heartbeat and revealed that the baby had limbs - although the stage of development wasn’t clear.
Just a matter of hours after learning about her pregnancy, Sammy was told by hospital staff that she was in labor.
Her partner was working away and rushed to be by her side, arriving 30 minutes after the miracle baby arrived.
‘Cryptic pregnancy’ explained
On the show, Dr Sara then joined in to explain the science behind a ‘cryptic pregnancy’.
Basically, it means that the pregnancy isn’t discovered until a lot later on.
It’s pretty rare, too.
Often, it’s not noticed because of irregular periods or a bump that simply doesn’t show.
Sammy’s son was just as shocked to learn he had a brother
Sammy already has a son, who is nearly 10, and he had to come to terms with suddenly being a big brother.
As you can imagine, Sammy overwhelmed by the sudden news and the shock of the delivery, but ultimately, they are happy to have a healthy baby, and their family and friends were excited to celebrate Noah’s arrival.
After all, this story about undiscovered symptoms has a happy ending - plenty of them don’t.
