A woman had the shock of a lifetime when she was rushed to hospital, believing she had kidney stones, only to give birth to - not one, not two but three babies!
Already parents to two children, Dannette Glitz and her partner Austin, had no idea that their modest-sized brood was about to increase to five seemingly in an instant.
It all started earlier this month when the mother from Sturgis, South Dakota began feeling pain in her back and sides. Dannette had had kidney stones before and thought the symptoms she was currently experiencing were one and the same.
Many childbirth stories are from plain sailing. Watch this pregnant woman give birth in the backseat of a car:"I started getting pains in my back and in my side felt like kidney stones cuz ive had them once before," Dannette explained in a post to Facebook. "so i just keept pushing on tell saturday i was in so much pain all i could do was lay in bed and cry it hurt to move and even breath... [sic]".
Given the severity of the symptoms, it was decided that Dannette should be taken to hospital.
"[I] went to urgent care thinking im going to have to have surgery to break the stones up," she recalled.
This couldn't have been any further from the truth, however, as the urine sample she provided showed not only that she didn't have kidney stones - but that she was pregnant with twins!
According to the doctors, the pain she had experienced were due to contractions, and as such, she was taken to another hospital to undergo a c-section.
During the c-section, it was discovered that Dannete was actually having triplets, not twins.
In an interview with KOTA-TV, the mom explained:
"It was quiet, we thought they were done. [Austin’s] over there, kind of like rocking like, thinking of the names and then [the doctor’s] like well we need another blanket and his reaction is like excuse me, put it back, no, I was told I have twins, I’m not doing triplets. She’s like no, there’s three babies in here, there’s triplets."
On August 10, Danette and Austin welcomed two girls and a boy (named Blaze, Gypsy and Nikki) and marked the unexpected arrival with a picture of the newborns on Facebook. "Well this was a huge shock," she wrote in the caption.
According to Dannette, her friends and family were in complete disbelief upon learning about the three new members of the family:
"You don’t ever see triplets being conceived naturally, let alone going 34 weeks without knowing. So, everyone’s like, I can’t believe it. We’re still in shock, trust me. I go to the doctor’s thinking I’ll have surgery for kidney stones and end up going into labour with a c-section that night. It’s crazy."
A friend of Dannette, has since set up a fundraising page on Facebook to help raise money for the parents, with £1,008 having been donated so far.
Plus Dannette took to Facebook on Thursday to share an update on her three little tots.
"Updated picture of the triplets they are 5 days old tonight doing good progression is perfect hopefully they keep it up and next couple of days they should be coming home, [sic]" she wrote in the caption.
We wish Dannette and her family all the health and happiness in the world.
