A woman has revealed how her decision to wear a pair of high-cut shorts on a date had near-fatal consequences.
Taking to social media to share her story, 25-year-old Sam from North Carolina told her TikTok followers how a date she went on three years ago ended with her in the ICU.
Posting under the handle @imtoooldtobeonthis, Sam wrote in her video: "Wearing tight shorts on one of the first dates with my [boyfriend] and having a wedgie for 8 hours. Then having a sore a** for a few days."
Following the date, she reveals that she started to feel sick and took herself to the doctors where she was prescribed antibiotics for a possible skin infection.
Sam continues: "Next day, feeling AWFUL. Can't walk so fo to ER and insist I'm in the worst stabbing pain."
Check out Sam's story in the video below:After being admitted to the ICU, Sam was diagnosed with sepsis and cellulitis. There were even concerns that doctors would have to "cut off" the infected area of Sam's bottom.
But thankfully, she made a full recovery and is still in a relationship with the guy she went on that fateful date with.
Sam's original video recalling the traumatic incident quickly went viral, and as of this writing, has amassed over 8.1 million views, and after several comments asking for pics of her outfit on the date, she happily obliged.
These are the infamous shorts Sam opted to wear:In the update video, Sam says: "Okay, please don't judge me, this is like the most embarrassing thing ever."
She goes on to explain how she had saved up for a pair of shorts from One Teaspoon, describing them as "the coolest shorts ever".
"So, what happened is, I was wearing boy-shorts underwear, and the material kept clumping up," Sam adds. "And I kept picking my wedgie, so... I kept picking it - it just kept happening. And at some point I was just like, having fun, I didn't really care. And then that happened."
And revealing what the pair did on their date, Sam says they enjoyed a brunch, watched a lot of New Girl, and then went to dinner and a comedy show in the evening.
Speaking to Buzzfeed about her story, Sam says that she shared her original video because she thought it would make a funny TikTok, but has been left surprised about the comments she has received.
She told the outlet: "Most people were shocked that this could happen, BUT I was extremely surprised at the amount of people saying the same thing happened to them too! I'm happy I made the TikTok, and although it's extremely scary to have one of the most embarrassing things that has ever happened to me on the internet, it reminds people that we're all human and experience weird stuff, and it's nothing to be ashamed of."
Sepsis is an incredibly dangerous illness and Sam wants her story to raise awareness of the condition. She told Buzzfeed: "If I hadn't gone to the hospital when I did, I could've easily died. Also, wear what makes you feel comfortable."
