Holographic hair is set to become the biggest hair trend of 2020
There's something about anything holographic that just makes my heart skip a beat and gets me excited.
It probably stems from a childhood of collecting Pokémon cards and pulling holographic Charizards (Fake News: I never had a shiny Charizard).
However, it turns out there is something even more beautiful than a holo Pokémon card, and that is holographic hair.

Yes, we've all seen colorful unicorn hair, and in recent years people have been amazed by Nordic White hair, Milk Tea hair, and even Mushroom Blond hair, but now we've been blessed with the 'fairidescent' hair trend we never knew we deserved - and some people think it's going to be the most popular look of 2020.

Discussing the eye-catching look, Redken colorist Chiala Marvici revealed that the look is achieved through a new haircolor technique called Hand-Pressed Coloring.

Speaking to Modern Salon, Marcivi reveals how the technique results in multi-tonal and multi-dimensional effects, along with diffused patterns, adding: "It gives you the option to create strong or soft results".

Marvici said back in 2015 that the technique has plenty of room to evolve: "Everything has to evolve at some point and Hand-Pressed Color is a new approach to color application. The application time is less than traditional color applications like foils and Balayage, so it saves time in the salon for both the colorist and the client."

And looking at some of the most recent results on social media, we'd definitely agree that holographic hair is the most revolutionary hair color trend we've ever seen.

Popsugar states that the technique is achieved by the stylist painting different patterns on a sheet of Plexiglas with dye and then placing a section of hair onto the glass, transferring the dye to your hair.

The stylist then repeats the process on different sections of hair or repeatedly on the same section to increase the intensity of the color. Popsugar also states that the rainbow shades will only look holographic if the client already has a light hair color like blond or grey - so keep that in mind before booking your appointment at the salon.

The holographic effect looks great in a variety of tones, and stands out even more than applied in patches. It also looks great on both men and women, and on a variety of lengths.
