A homeowner has divided social media users after sharing their "messed up" method to prevent people from walking across their lawn.

One user named Thomas Lyons took to TikTok - under the handle @tgunz81 - to share a security video that had an overlay text that read: "When people won't stop cutting across your lawn, set up an automatic sprinkler."

So, as it would have taken a lot of effort for Lyons to yell at the several individuals every time they stepped foot on his lawn, he instead installed a sprinkler system that automatically set off once someone got too far into the garden.

The clip hilariously showed the strangers panicking once the surprise water hit them, and then running off onto the sidewalk as soon as they realized their mistake.

The TikTok clip - which was uploaded in 2021 - amassed 51 million views and 9.3 million likes on the video-sharing app. Many users flooded the comment section with mixed reactions.

One person in support of the surprise sprinkler commented: "Bruh who’s parents didn’t teach them to not walk on people’s grass? [sic]"

Another agreed, saying: "People saying put a fence…..why would someone spend money on something that is not a need, people have to respect other’s people properties. [sic]"

A third user also remarked: "Pure excellence."

Meanwhile, one person who disagreed with the method said: "Adults get weirder and weirder. This is messed up. People like this need their lawn cra**ed on."

A second user penned: "BRUH WHY WOULD U DO THAT THEY JUST WALKING. BUILD A BORDER BRUH," and one last person added: "If you care that much about your property line then put up a fence."

The homeowner shared a follow-up video of what used to happen before the sprinkler came into action. It showed day and night footage of people freely walking on the lawn and even displayed some cycling on the grass.

In the caption of that clip, the TikToker claimed that they had previously "asked nicely every day to stay off the lawn, but people keep coming" - so it's clear to see that they resorted to the sprinkler as their final option.

Well, despite the reaction to their method being divided among online users, at least we know for sure that those people won't be walking on that grass again.
