The wife, whose accident took place first, luckily escaped with minor injuries. Her husband, however, sustained more serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to police.

The crashes happened on Chengdong Avenue in the city of Yichang on Tuesday morning according to the Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security of China.

Authorities released the surveillance footage on Chinese social media site Weibo in a bid to warn people against disregarding traffic rules.

In the video, the wife, who is riding an electric bike, can be seen unlawfully attempting to cross the six-lane road. She then squeezes through inadequately sized gaps between the cars waiting in the traffic jam, before getting to a right-turning lane where she collides with a white car.

The woman manages to get up on her own almost immediately and is then taken away by the police. Just around 10 minutes later, her husband is recklessly seen crossing at the same spot.

He enters the right-turning lane but, similarly to his wife, collides with a white car. The impact sends him flying. The man can be seen reacting to the crash in agony. Meanwhile, his wife is seen speaking to the police before spotting her injured husband.

The cops then call for an ambulance to take him to the hospital.
