A dog that was abandoned at an animal shelter for being "gay" has found a loving new home.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the Stanly County Animal Protective Services in Albemarle, North Carolina, revealed earlier this month that the male dog - then known as Fezco - had been dumped by his previous owners after the pooch humped another male dog.

Disapproving of this behavior, Fezco was left looking for a new home.

More on the original story in the video below:

The ASPCA states that many dogs mount and thrust other dogs as part of their normal play - and it is not necessarily indicative of the pup's sexuality. There can be many reasons a dog will mount another - it's all very normal and part of their behavior.

Fortunately, Fezco - who weighs 50lb and is believed to be four or five years old - has found a new home.

Speaking to TMZ, North Carolina's Steve Nichols and his long-term partner, John, have welcomed Fezco into their family. Although, the pup is no longer known as Fezco - as his new doggy collar reads "Oscar", after the Irish poet and LGBTQ+ icon, Oscar Wilde.

Nichols told the publication that both he and his partner have faced discrimination in the past, and therefore wanted to provide a place of unconditional love for Oscar and applied to adopt him. Much to everyone's delight, they were accepted.

Confirming the news, the Stanly County Animal Protective Services wrote on its Facebook page: "We would like to give a special thank you to Greater Charlotte SPCA for taking Fezco into their rescue! Thankfully, they had a previous adopter step up, and Fezco has been ADOPTED!!! Thank you GCSPCA for making this possible!"

The newly named Oscar will be spending some time at the vets, as Nichols revealed that the pooch was not neutered and had heartworms.

Oscar will also have a friend to play with, as the couple already have another dog, called Harry.

Thankfully, this adorable pup can now live his life in a judgment-free home, full of love, and with dedicated owners who will take care of him.
