A mother was left horrified after a Minion birthday cake she ordered didn't quite live up to her expectations, as she branded it the "ugliest f***ing thing ever".
When it's that time of year when your kid's birthday rolls around, picking out the perfect cake can be a stressful experience as you probably want it to be a showstopper.
But sometimes, the cake can be a talking point for all the wrong reasons, as one unfortunate mom on TikTok found out.
TikTok user @babygirls0s0 shared a video documenting her not-so-pleasant encounter with a Minions cake she had ordered for her son's birthday celebration.
With an air of disbelief, she started the clip by exclaiming: "Yo, I just picked up my son’s Minion cake from H-E-B, and this is the ugliest f***ing thing I’ve ever seen," referring to the Texas-based grocery chain.
Disappointed, the mother continued: "This is so not what I asked for, and his party’s tomorrow. It is fixable, and I’m not that picky, so I just took it. But this is the ugliest f***ing thing ever."
The frustrated TikToker then revealed what she had initially requested for the cake, sharing a picture of a Minions cake from Pinterest that served as her inspiration.
She explained that she had provided the H-E-B worker with a specific vision for the cake, wanting it to feature blocks of blue and yellow, though she emphasized it didn't need to be as intricate as the online image.
"She even asked me, 'Do you want it to be ombre to go from blue into yellow?' and I’m like, 'No, straight blue, straight yellow,'" she recalled.
In an attempt to clarify her expectations, the mother stated: "It doesn't have to be that fancy," reasoning that her son would inevitably mess up the cake during the celebration.
As she transitioned to unveil the final cake product provided by H-E-B, she questioned: "What the f*** is this? Where are my swirls? Why is it green?"
She said that her specific requests had not been met, and she was puzzled by the cake's unexpected green hue, as she had ordered a Minions-themed cake.
Responding to the incident, H-E-B released a statement to PEOPLE, saying: "At H-E-B, we strive to provide quality products to our customers and to ensure they are satisfied with their purchases."
The statement continued: "We understand the customer’s frustration and apologize for the inconvenience. We are working to make things right."
Following the uproar on social media, the TikTok user later shared an update on how she and her fiancé, along with her mother-in-law, transformed the cake.
She posted: "It has been highly requested for a cake update. So here it is. What we ended up doing is this. Look how pretty this was. And it took two seconds."
The mother explained that they added a printed Minion topper to the cake and rearranged the provided ribbon to conceal the ombre effect. They also spruced up the cake with "Happy Birthday" toppers and a colorful birthday candle, ultimately salvaging the birthday celebration despite the initial cake mishap.
