A pole vaulter has required 18 stitches after impaling his scrotum.

The shocking accident happened to Zach McWhorter, 21, who is a pole vaulter at Brigham Young University in London. Like a lot of sportspeople, he wanted to show off his skills online, but when he asked his coach to record him for TikTok, he ended up in a painful incident as he accidentally impaled his testicle.

To begin with, McWhorter's jump is impressive, but the moment he crosses the bar, things take a turn for the worst when the pole collides with his manhood, causing him to fall into the mat in agony.

Thankfully, McWorter's coach is his dad, and he was immediately rushed to hospital after the accident - but that did not stop him from posting it on TikTok, where it has since gone viral.

At the time of writing, it has had 3.3 million likes on the app and been shared over 205K times.

Buzzfeed caught up with McWhorter after the viral accident to ascertain the extent of the damage, and he told the news outlet: "I could see right into my scrotum."

The 21-year-old explained that after his scrotum got impaled, his dad drove him to hospital and he had to receive a whopping 18 stitches.

"Immediately after the incident, we got in his car and drove to the hospital and he sewed me up. It required 18 stitches!" McWhorter said.

He also clarified the question that's most likely on your mind: "Fortunately, as far as I know, there is nothing wrong with my testicles - just a scar. One day, we'll find out if they function or not."
