Despite blended families becoming more and more common in society, the significance of stepparents can sometimes be overlooked.

However, one viral TikTok video is not only melting hearts across social media, but also showing exactly how co-parenting should be done.

The touching video was captured at a wedding and shows the moment a father-of-the-bride decided to interrupt the traditional wedding procession to invite his daughter's stepdad to join him in walking her down the aisle.

Kelsey Griffith, known as @griffithk5 on TikTok, shared this emotional moment with her followers, captioning the post: "My dad surprised my stepdad by including him in our walk down the aisle." Viewers can't seem to get enough of the video, which has already amassed over 5 million views. Check out the moment below:

In the now-viral clip, Kelsey and her biological father begin the time-honored walk down the aisle. But halfway through, the father-of-the-bride pauses and reaches for Kelsey's stepfather. Initially, it appears as though he's extending a simple handshake. However, in a heartwarming turn of events, Kelsey's dad pulls the stepdad into the aisle.

Then, both men lock arms with Kelsey and continue walking her down the aisle as a united family, proceeding together to the altar.

The comments section of the video is flooded with praise for this modern family's healthy dynamics. One touched user wrote, "Dad didn't make it about him. He made it about his daughter. On her special day. That's awesome!" Another added, "Your daddy is the definition of what a real man is. On that day he realized [you're] not only his little girl but your stepdad's as well."

Moreover, viewers were quick to recognize this as a teachable moment. One comment read: "If this doesn't serve as a lesson to all divorced and/or additional parents, I don't know what does. Congrats to all of you. More parents could learn!"

"When a parent loves his child with complete unselfishness," another comment read.

Indeed, Kelsey's father's gesture is inspiring many to reconsider how stepparents should be involved in significant family events, and rewarded for their part in raising a child.

Kelsey later shared another angle of this extraordinary moment, capturing her stepdad's genuine happiness and shock at being included. The joy radiating from all three faces is palpable!

In an era when the term 'family' has so many definitions, this viral video is a timely testament to the powerful role that stepparents often play in a child's life, and that love doesn't have to be defined by blood.

Hats off to Kelsey's family for sharing this inspiring story with the world - let's hope we see more stories like this in the future.
