This month saw the arrival of the romance no one ever thought would happen: Pete Davidson and Kate Beckinsale.
Rumours were flying for weeks before the pair were spotted playing tonsil tennis at a New York Rangers game in early March, finally confirming their relationship.
However, it seems not everyone is thrilled about the situation, with dozens of fans pointing out the 20-year age gap between the two.
But Pete is here to tell you that he doesn't give a hoot about what you think. The comedian finally broke his silence on his blossoming love on Saturday Night Live last night, slamming the "crazy fascination" people have with their age difference.
After cracking some jokes on Weekend Update, the 25-year-old was asked by Colin Jost: "Anything else going on?"
At first, he insisted there was nothing going on at all (with a massive grin on his face), but was pressed by Colin who said: "Not like, a new girlfriend situation, Pete?"
Without skipping a beat, the American comedian said: "Oh yeah! Apparently, people have a crazy fascination with our age difference, but it doesn’t really bother us."
He added: "But then again, I'm new to this. So if you have questions about a relationship with a big age difference, just ask Leonardo DiCaprio, Jason Statham, Michael Douglas, Richard Gere, Jeff Goldblum, Scott Disick, Dane Cook, Derek Jeter..." - and went on to name dozens of other men who had younger girlfriends or wives at one time or another.
Boom! That sure shut us all up! I think it's safe to say, Pete and Kate aren't bothered in the slightest about their age difference...
According to a source who spoke to Heat magazine in February, Pete is totally besotted with the Pearl Harbour actress.
"Pete is absolutely besotted… he’s been showering her with gifts and burning up her phone," they said.
However, friends are allegedly worried that the 45-year-old will end up breaking his heart, with the source adding: "She’ll get bored eventually and move on like she always does. That’ll leave Pete nursing a broken heart because he always falls hard and fast like this. Look at what happened with Ariana."
Nonetheless, the two appear to be going strong so far, with a source more recently telling E Online: "Kate’s very into Pete. "You wouldn’t necessarily put them together, but it’s working for now. [Kate is] excited about getting to know him and hoping to spend more time with him."
Pete isn't the only one in the couple furiously defending the relationship; Kate has also taken to social media a fair few times now to clap back at fans who have written offensive comments. When one fan commented on a photo of her mother, Judy Loe, in January, saying "Dear heavens, Kate, Not Pete Davidson," she brought the sass with a reply that read: "No that's my mother. Easy mistake."
Furthermore, after one man wrote that he was "disappointed in her dating choices" in February, the Total Recall star shut him down, stating: "Pretty let down by your wonky beard but thought possibly rude to say."
It seems like nothing is stopping this romance!
