A woman has gone viral on TikTok after revealing the one odd sign she noticed early on, before eventually realizing her partner was cheating.
In a video that reached more than 18.1 million views, @theidestiny shared a story about a chaotic date night that, in hindsight, made everything painfully clear about her relationship.
She summed it up by using a phrase that’s now taken a life of its own online, “If your dog starts barking at you, someone else is feeding it,” she stated.
The couple's dinner date didn't go as planned
The woman explained that she and her partner had been excited all week about a date at a restaurant they both loved. They’d talked about the menu, gone shopping for the occasion, but once the day of the date arrived, something felt off and took a drastic turn.
She said her partner suddenly became short, snippy, and impatient, behavior she found strange, especially because nothing out of the ordinary had happened.
“He was also rushing me, which is really strange because he normally took longer to get ready than I did,” she explained, adding that they weren’t even running late.
Determined not to let the mood ruin her night, she pushed on.
But once they arrived at the restaurant, things took a turn for the worse.
She recalled him ‘huffing and puffing’ about the parking, complaining about the table they were given, despite it being a busy Friday night.
At one point, she suggested he get a drink to calm down, but he abruptly said he needed to use the bathroom. When he returned, his mood hadn’t improved. “At this point he’s just huffing and puffing about every single little thing,” she said.
The situation then escalated when her partner suddenly accused the people sitting next to them of “looking at my woman”, despite the fact that they were clearly two men on a date.
She said he went “from zero to 100”, started arguing with her, then with the neighboring table, before grabbing his things and storming out, claiming he “just needed a cigarette”.
The woman's partner suddenly abandons her
Minutes later, she saw his car speed past the restaurant, and he never came back.
Despite numerous calls, which went unanswered, she was left sitting alone as the food arrived, ultimately paying the check herself, packing up the meals, and ordering an Uber home.
At the time, she said she tried to rationalize his behavior, blaming stress but looking back, she now sees it differently.
“Somebody else was feeding my dog,” she stated. A metaphorical way of saying her partner is cheating on her.
The phrase didn’t go unnoticed by the millions of viewers, many of whom flooded the comments saying they’d experienced similar behavior.
“Someone else is feeding my dog. I’m using that phrase,” one person wrote, while others said the story helped them reframe past relationships.
The woman ended her video with a simple warning to others: if someone becomes snippy, argumentative, or starts picking fights right before something you’re excited about, it may be a sign something else is going on and that “somebody else may be feeding your dog”.
