Lockdowns imposed by governments all over the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic have really changed the way that we interact with each other. With many of us practicing social distancing and self-isolation, it is becoming increasingly difficult to deliver messages we would have otherwise given in person.

As a result, more and more of us are turning to face-to-face interaction apps such as Skype, Facetime, and Houseparty.

However, there are some messages - especially messages worthy of celebration - that should only really be delivered in person.

And it's for that reason that a school administrator in Michigan decided to surprise a high school senior at Grand Traverse Academy to tell her that she's the school's 2020 Valedictorian - all while adhering to the self-distancing guidelines.

Per CBS News, Michelle Floering, the secondary principal of Grand Traverse Academy (GTA), was aware that Kaitlyn Watson worked at a restaurant called Culver's, so she decided to give the teenager the good news as she got to the establishment's drive-thru window.

"Hi Kaitlyn. So, I got you on camera because I want to announce something to you today," Floering tells her student. "You are GTA's 2020 class valedictorian!"

An ecstatic Watson responds to the news, saying, "I am? Oh my gosh! Thank you so much."

"You're welcome. And I know we have to stay six feet away so I can't give you a hug, but congratulations. Well deserved," Floering responds.

"Thank you so much, oh my gosh," Watson continues while excitedly jumping up and down.

Schools in Michigan were ordered to close on March 16 in response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

“We are working diligently to come up with a plan to meet the needs of our kids. I think anyone who’s watching what is happening globally with this pandemic knows it’s probably very unlikely they’re going to get back into school before the end of the year," Governor Gretchen Whitmer said. “I haven’t made that call yet because I want to make sure we’ve got a plan to meet the needs of our kids, and that’s what we’re working on.”
