A man has sparked outrage on social media after saying being a stay-at-home parent is a "privilege" for women.
A TikToker - who goes by the handle @dustinpoynter - shared a video of a man talking about why the title "stay-at-home mom" should not be regarded as a "real" job.
The audacious clip - which was captioned: "JUST TALKING RIGHT OUTTA YOUR (peach and red flag emoji) - begins with the content creator saying: "Being a stay-at-home mom is not a job whatsoever, it's a privilege."
He then goes on to explain the controversial view further, adding: ''I was laid off from work for four months, and I had to stay home, and it's the easiest s**t I've ever done in my life. I can do all the daily responsibilities that come with taking care of a house in no time and then other than that all you have to do is watch your kid.''
Watch the TikTok below:The man went on to insist that he wasn't "knocking stay-at-home mothers" because he has "respect for them" and thinks "the world needs more of them because it's good for the kid".
However, he proceeded to dig his way out by adding: ''You can't take a nap at a full-time job, you can't watch TV at a full-time job, you have someone watching your every move at a full-time job demanding that you do what they say.''
The TikTok clip amassed almost one million views on the platform, and was stitched by another content creator named Dustin Poynter who uses his page to call out "red flag" behavior.
Poynter shared that while he doesn't have children of his own, he grew up with three siblings, as well as a stay-at-home mom, and a stay-at-home stepmom.
''I witnessed first-hand the stress that comes with maintaining an entire house, Olympic diving across the kitchen to save your child from putting its hand in the garbage disposal 50 times a day, listening to constant screaming and meltdowns," he said.
Poynter added: ''And most importantly, trying not to cause irrevocable physical and psychological harm to an innocent human being who didn't ask to be here."
Many users took to the comments section to share their shocked reactions to the man's claims about stay-at-home moms.
"Wait a minute stay at home moms are watching TV and taking naps. I must be doing this wrong," one user quipped, while another chimed in: "Someone leave him alone with at least two kids under 5 for a week and see how he does."
A third person pointed out that the man believes moms "watch" their kids rather than "raise" them, with a fourth adding: "Not to mention the kid meltdowns if you don't play the way they want to play. Or the constant cleaning up behind them. keeping them alive... so on."
One woman shared that she also doesn't think being a stay-at-home mom is a job, however, this is because it is not a "paid position" where you "clock in and out of" as it is "constant work" for a parent to look after their children.
"Being a mother is the hardest job I have ever done, it's the best job but the most demanding and it's a privilege to do," someone else slammed back.
