Whoopi Goldberg has been blasted by viewers after criticizing millennials and Gen Z who "only want to work four hours".

During the The View's Hot Topics segment on Wednesday (November 8), the hosts spoke about the current economic conditions in America that are making people second-guess starting families and affordable housing.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, 34, started off the discussions by lamenting her generation as "the generation of the housing crisis, financial crisis, and 9/11," and stating that millennials (people born between 1981 to 1996) have a different American dream.

"On having kids specifically, I get it. Most of my friends, if they're not married by a certain age, they're not owning homes at the same rate and you don't want to have kids if you don't feel like you can provide that," she continued.

The EGOT-winning actress - who is a baby boomer (people born from 1946 to 1964) turned to the camera to berate "lazy" mentalities among younger generations.

She said "every generation comes and wants to do better than their parents did," and added: "But, I'm sorry, if you only want to work four hours, it's going to be harder for you to get a house."

"I feel for everybody that feels this, but, I'm sorry, we busted our behinds, we had to bust our behinds, because we didn't have the option of going back. We had all kinds of stuff," she added.

Griffin responded to Goldberg and claimed that the 67-year-old actress' age group "gave us the housing crisis, though," to which the Sister Act star pushed back that "every generation is told you're going to do worse than your parents."

She then offered life advice to those struggling by saying: "You know what, people pick it up, and they do what they do and they raise themselves. This is what you've got to do. It's called being a good citizen."

Many social media users disagreed with Goldberg and claimed that her statement was out of touch as she was not aware of why the younger generations were struggling.

"Oh boy. I've normally agreed with her or sometimes I give her a pass, but Whoopi's comment was way out of line. It IS harder and so many people work long hours and it's hard to see her basically call us all lazy. Her generation had it easier and if she can't realize that...." one user said.

"Whoopi went full Boomer on this episode! It really is a very different situation right now for younger generations. I see it and feel it. I’m in my later 50’s. Something has to happen with wages matching the surge in living expenses and housing costs," someone else shared.

A third user slammed: "More spoiled rich celebs patronizing others. How many hours does Whoopi "work"? (And, sitting in a trailer waiting for others to put production together doesn't count!!) LOADS of ppl WORK HARDER than Whoopi or Kim K & won't ever earn a fraction of what those two have been handed."

A fourth added: "Whoopi is so out of touch sometimes it is truly depressing."

Kim Kardashian drew criticism for similar remarks she made to Variety in 2022 when the SKIMS mogul responded to a question about advice for young women in the business industry.

"I have the best advice for women in business," the 43-year-old reality TV star told the publication in a video that has since become an internet meme. "Get your f***ing a** up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days."
