If you've considered visiting the pyramids in Egypt, perhaps have a look at this video before you book the trip.
The Great Pyramids of Giza are one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and for many, visiting these iconic structures is a bucket list dream.
While they might not look the same as they did thousands of years ago, the fact that they are still around is impressive enough.
But before you pack your bags, a viral video by content creator @touchdalight, also known as Carmie Sellitto, might make you second-guess that travel plan.
Sellitto's video offers some unexpected reasons why you might want to stay home instead of making the trip to Egypt.
While the pyramids are undeniably awe-inspiring, Carmie has come up with three rather persuasive reasons that could make you reconsider your visit.
Climbing the Pyramids
One of the first reasons Carmie gives for avoiding the pyramids is the physical challenge of visiting them.
The narrow pathways and steep climbs inside the pyramid are no walk in the park.
"You have to climb on your knees for about 30-40 minutes. It gets tiring, it's like an obstacle course," Carmie explains in the video. If you're not up for a mini workout in the sweltering heat, this could be a major deterrent.
To emphasize just how tight and tricky these pathways can be, Sellitto even shows a clip of a friend hitting her head while trying to squeeze through one of the narrow tunnels.
The cramped space is not just uncomfortable - it’s also described as "quite dangerous" by Carmie. If you have a fear of confined spaces, this might not be the ideal experience for you.
It's Pretty Hot
Now, we all know that air conditioning wasn’t exactly on the table when the pyramids were built over 4,000 years ago.
Still, Carmie points out the obvious discomfort of touring an ancient structure with no cooling system in sight.
"There’s no air con inside," he states plainly.
While installing air conditioning inside such a historic structure might be a bit much (and a potential disaster for preservation), it's clear that a trip inside the pyramid can be quite uncomfortable, especially during the scorching Egyptian summer.
The "Epic" Factor
Finally, Carmie delivers a reason that's harder to argue with: the pyramids are so spectacular that you might not ever experience anything like it again.
After all, these ancient monuments have stood the test of time for thousands of years. "It is actually so epic you won’t experience anything like it again," he says.
This point hits home for anyone who's spent years dreaming of this visit.
Should You Visit the Pyramids?
While being inside the pyramids can be claustrophobic and uncomfortable, it would surely be an incredible experience.
Equally, if you didn't want to venture inside, looking at them from the outside is still impressive.
