A UPS driver has said that he was left in tears after opening up his son's letter to Santa Claus and discovering his very simple request for this holiday season.

While most children ask Santa for material belongings, this child instead wanted to spend more time with his father.

The boy asked Father Christmas if he could give his dad a helping hand with his deliveries so that he could make it home in time to spend more time with him this Christmas.

The dad subsequently took to Reddit to reveal that the letter left him in tears when he was struck with the realization that he had to spend more time at home.

Writing under the username DminorFmajor, the father shared the touching letter to Reddit, saying: "I'm a UPS driver and I cried when I opened up our son's letter to Santa.

"This letter really opened up my eyes on some things."

Jonah's letter says: "Dear Santa, I would really like to spend more time with my dad, so I would really appreciate it if you could get him off work early.

"Because he is a UPS worker and people are ordering so many presents, so I could love it if you could help him in any way."

Since it was posted two days ago, the poignant post has been upvoted 123K times, with many parents taking to the comments section to sympathize with the father's position.

One sympathetic commentator wrote: "I feel you. My partner works at FedEx, and this time of year they always have to pick up extra shifts, and things are much worse this year than usual.

"We already gave up our Thanksgiving with the kids and left them with their mother because my partner had to work from early morning until 1:00 a.m. We ended up being 'lucky' that he was actually able to head home at 10:00 p.m.

"He will work both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, from morning until 1:00 a.m., oh and New year's Eve as well. And I probably won't even be able to take the kids to their grandparents or my partner's sister, because of covid, especially since his father has asthma and is in his 70s."

A second added: "I can only imagine how that feels. Used to be a ups truck driver assistant you guys work hard long hours. Keep your head up king. [sic]"

Meanwhile, a third worker also sympathized with the father, revealing that they have been working six-day weeks since March.

They wrote: "As a warehouse worker I'm with you. 6 day weeks since March, I cry once I'm home and finally hold my kids. Teamster for life.[sic]"
